Wyze Duo Doorbell No Longer Recognizes It Is Hardwired

11/2024 I purchased the Wyze Duo Doorbell. I hard wired the doorbell and use continuous record on the SD card. I noticed some issues with the doorbell missing motion and deliveries. Today I noticed it wasn’t on Continuous Record and stated it needed to be hard wired to use that feature. Since it is hardwired I spent 3 hours troubleshooting shooting and even re-wiring the doorbell trying to get it to work. I finally decided to swap the doorbell out with my other Duo Doorbell and it immediately recognized it was hardwired. I am so disappointed that this doorbell failed after less than 2 years. Is this a known issue that this camera no longer recognizes it is hard wired over time?

Welcome to the forum @k.suber!

I have not experienced that issue and have had my duo since release, but very familiar with the frustrations of extended troubleshooting.

Not knowing what all you attempted in your troubleshooting, a couple of thoughts.
Did you by chance try a factory reset of the doorbell duo that was acting up?

Remove from the app and re-add after a factory reset?

Wyze Duo Doorbell No Longer Recognizes It Is Hardwired:Hi R Good and thank you for your response! Yes, I tried a factory reset. I also cut the power, removed the battery, deleted it from the account amongst so many other attempts. I even re-wired the Doorbell to ensure it hadn’t somehow been compromised. The only possible option was to swap it out with my other Duo Doorbell that ran strictly via the battery. As soon as I wired the new Doorbell (that was previously only on the battery) it immediately recognized and acknowledged it was on a wired system and asked which doorbell “ring” I wanted to use (mechanical vs chime). I must admit I am very disappointed this occurred. I had noticed “missed motion” where packages were delivered. When I went to check the SD card, nothing was captured. That’s when realized it was no longer on continuous recording. Each time I attempted to change it to Continuous Record, it informed me that wasn’t an option without the doorbell being hard wired.

The doorbell has been moved to the battery only location. It is no longer hardwired so it seems to be functioning at a non-wired capacity. Thank goodness I had purchased a second unit was able to swap out with.

I appreciate your willingness to offer suggestions. It was a frustrating experience. I have loved this doorbell since I purchased it and encouraged others to buy this particular doorbell/brand. The good news is the new doorbell works as intended and captures everything once again! I’m not sure what happened to the original. But it was disappointing to say the least. I felt it was important to let other know in case they experienced the same thing.

I’m going to delete your duplicate/linked topic since you posted your reply back here in your original topic. Thank you for continuing the discussion here. :+1:

I had a few issues in the past with the older doorbell pro that operated very similar to the duo I.e. battery or hard wired

If you think about it, there is a lot of tech in these little guys and they go through some pretty harsh conditions if not semi covered. Sun, dust, water.

Less than 2 years would be disappointing if conditions are optimal, but if conditions aren’t optimal, 2 years might just be about all it can take depending on some scenarios.

I have personally killed 2 Doorbell pros… Let’s just say IPX5 is no match for a spray impact sprinkler. They were also in a lot of direct sunlight
But I like having doorbells on my fence gates. The fence gates are fully exposed to all elements. My front door has about 5 feet of cover so the duo is not exposed to a lot of direct sunlight or precipitation.

I totally understand though.

Are you using the chime controller or by-pass wire? Or are you using the wi-fi chimes? Could possibly be a wiring issue in the chimebox with the transformer wiring connections.

So wild, mine did the exact same thing!

I’ve had mine installed for just over a year and a half and about a week ago it switched to battery operation. I decided to upgrade the transformer thinking it had gone out but that didn’t work. I checked the voltage at the transformer and at the doorbell and everything checked out. I pull the battery, nothing. Put the battery back in and it turns right on. It’s just under 30% now and I’ve never charged it before.

I totally agree with the tech in these devices. I’ve had some cameras outside they hold up pretty well. When they stop functioning after a couple of years in the elements, I replace them without grumbling. My doorbell, however, is not in the elements at all. I have a covered porch with a walkway leading up to the door that is enclosed on three sides by stone and brick. It is not in the elements, nor in direct sunlight. It is significantly protected.

When I realized mine was no longer on continuous record (continuous record feature will not function when using the battery option) I also noticed my battery was at 74%. I thought perhaps there was an issue with the battery. I had a backup battery I used for my other doorbell to swap it out when the battery was low. When I put the fully charged battery in it still didn’t recognize it was wired. I tried so many things. Bottom line, the doorbell simply stopped recognizing it was wired. When I swapped out the doorbells the old doorbell I had at another entrance that ran off the battery immediately recognized it was hard wired in the new location! So the problem isn’t in the wiring or transformers. The doorbell simply stopped recognizing it was hard wired.
