Wyze Duo Cam Doorbell Chime Controller questions

Hello All.
Hope to get your email. I live in Canada and I purchased the Duo Cam Doorbell to replace by Ring doorbell.

I installed it, but didn’t use the bypass cable since using the mechanical chime is e requirement.
Unfortunately I am suffering from ghost rings (many in the night). It is driving me crazy.
The chime controller is not available for sale in Canada, which is nonsensical and Wyze has not provided me with any support.

Since I can’t procure the chime controller I was wondering if anyone had experience utilizing the Ring version of the chime controller, the Pro Power Kit V2 (or V1).

Please let me know. Unfortunately, I am outside of my return window otherwise I would have gotten rid of this.
Thank you!

That’s frustrating about the lack of availability of Chime Controller in Canada, because I imagine that would be the solution to your problem. I have asked for some input from someone on Wyze Team, so I’ll plan to share what I can if/when I learn anything more about the product availability.

Aside from ringing a neighbor’s doorbell, I don’t have any hands-on experience with Ring products. My only other video doorbell installation experience has been with a wired Arlo product, and that also includes a Power Kit with 2 wires that connects to the home’s built-in mechanical chime. The Wyze Chime Controller is a 3-wire device that connects to the incoming wire from the doorbell, the chime’s FRONT terminal, and the TRANS terminal. I don’t know what all of these devices do internally (i.e., I don’t know enough about the operation of the Arlo or Ring “Power Kit” devices), but the wiring alone makes me skeptical about their ability to function in the way that the Wyze Chime Controller does. I guess you could try it, but I would just be rolling the dice in trying to predict the results, and I’d hate for this to somehow potentially damage the Ring Pro Power Kit in case you need or want to switch back to that device at some point.

Was Wi-Fi Chime included with your Duo Cam Doorbell? I understand that some vendors are now selling Duo Cam Doorbell without the Wi-Fi Chime that was included when it was launched. I’d use that if I had that available. I’d also consider using compatible Cams with the “Cameras as Chime” feature if you have any of those to double-up as accessory chimes until you have a more permanent solution.

I believe a friend in Edmonton has used Shipito to order things that are otherwise unavailable from Canadian vendors (but available to customers living in the United States) and to have those shipped to her address. I’m asking her for confirmation and some details about the experience, because that might be another option unless/until Wyze offers Chime Controller directly to Canadian customers.

I’ve also read about people ordering refurbished Video Doorbell v2 units just to get Chime Controller (before that was available as a separate accessory), but that seems potentially wasteful and unnecessary.

Thanks for asking the question! I’ll plan to report back if/when I learn more.

Yes. I used a Ring chime controller that the previous home owner had already installed and it worked with my Wyze Duo. I was honestly not expecting it to work, but it works like a charm. Hope this helps and good luck!

Hey Dave,
Many thanks for your response! I will install it today and let you know how it works. Out of curiosity did you have to do any setup in the software?

@ale2999, I know someone from Wyze was looking into this, but I haven’t yet received any solid information about availability. I hope things work out okay when you try it with the Ring Pro Power Kit. :crossed_fingers:

The only thing I did was acknowledge that I have a 'My built-in house chime" on the Wyze app. The Ring chime controller says the frequency (50 mHz I think?). I could not find which frequency Wyze uses, but it must be about the same. Good luck!
