My existing doorbell wires have plenty of extra length to wire directly into the doorbell. Is the use of the included “extension wires” necessary for the doorbell to work properly? I don’t want to fuss with the wire caps and trying to tuck them back inside the wall if I don’t have to.

If you have enough wire already and can neatly get them connected you can skip the extensions. I have wired one with and one without.
