I’m trying to add a Wyze Cam v4 to my network, but I keep getting a “Cannot connect to local network” error. My Wi-Fi is a blended 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz network.
What’s odd is that I’ve already successfully added a Wyze Cam v3 and a Wyze Cam Pan to this exact same network without any issues. For some reason, the Cam v4 refuses to connect.
Here’s what I’ve tried so far:
Set up a Wi-Fi hotspot on my Surface tablet (2.4 GHz only).
Connected my phone to that hotspot and was able to add the Cam v4 successfully.
As soon as I turned off the hotspot and reconnected everything to my home network, the camera dropped offline.
It seems like the camera just won’t stay connected to my blended 2.4/5 GHz network. How can I get this camera added and stay connected to my home network?
Did you try to turn off the 5.0GHz network, add the camera and turn the 5.0 back on. My cable modem/router was originally one SSID for both networks but I split them to 2.4 and 5.0 with different SSID. Or you could make a guest network on the 2.4 and try to set up the V4.
I own my equipment, not using an ISP provided unit.
I just gave it a try. I couldn’t find any option to split the band’s, but I did find a option to disable 5ghz entirely. So I selected that, ensured the phone was on the 2.4ghz network and went through the setup process again. No luck. Still wouldn’t connect
When you set up the hotspot on your tablet and were able to add the Cam v4 to that Wi-Fi, did you use the same SSID and password as the network that’s giving your Cam v4 connection problems? If not, then I’m wondering if that would be worth trying. If you can turn off your home network and connect the Cam v4 to a hotspot that’s using the same credentials as your home network, then maybe the Cam v4 would connect to your home network when you turn that back on and turn off the hotspot?
The hotspot was using a different network ID and password. I attempted to make the hotspot ID the same as the home network ID, but my phone wouldn’t detect the duplicate (hotspot) network when I did this
Re-reading your initial post, I’m wondering about this seeming discrepancy:
In one statement, it seems like you’re able to connect the Cam v4 to your home network, but in the other statement it seems like you’re saying that the camera connects but won’t remain connected, so I’m trying to get a better sense of what’s happening here.
Also, what did Support say when you contacted them?
Do you have WPA2/WPA3 mixed mode set in router? If so, change it to WPA2 only. I encountered same problem when setup V4 and doorbell V2; but no problem on V3 & V2 cams
