Wyze Cam V4 Slow to Live Stream

I have a number of the Wyze Cam V4 cameras around our home. Sometimes to check activity or noise, I try to open the live view to one of the outdoor cameras. Frustrating recently the “Loading of the Live Stream” proceeds slowly. Often camera is frozen a bit on “Step 1” of Starting up a secure connection. Annoying to see who is at front door, but view is so delayed. Updated all the cameras software, and reduced pic quality to HD rather than 2.5K. Seemed no benefit. Any suggestions? My Tapo Cameras open almost instantly, but unfortunately don’t have something similar to the Wyze Web View, only view via iphone app.

Mine actually go through that initial loading instantly but then show a still frame for 10 seconds or so until it starts streaming live, waiting on a fix for that.

Your issue sound more like a wifi/connectivity issue. Have you tested moving one of them into the same room as your router to see if it changes anything?

When you say you updated the software, did you update both the firmware and the app on your phone to the latest?

Yes, recently updated my iPhone to lastest software, and just updated all my Wyze cam V4 units to new firmware. The wifi in my home is very strong per my testing in the camera locations.

I have five V4 cams and they all load live stream instantly. iOS app 3.11.0 (6) and firmware 4.52.9,6119, The cam furthest from the router is about 35 feet on the West side of my house and it also loads instantly.

They might have RTSP. The Tapo cameras I’ve used do:

That doesn’t really solve your Wyze Cam v4 problem, but I wanted you to be aware that this is available since you mentioned another brand.

A strong signal is not the same thing as a good or clean signal. I would still try a camera in the same room as the router to try and rule signal problems in/out.

On the flip side, I have a v4 with only one bar and around -70dbm at the AP, which is borderline, but because my wifi is heavily optimized, it works fine. So just looking at strength is not enough to determine if the wifi is good or not.

Not very familiar with the technology. How would I measure the quality of the wifi signal? Of it is poor, is my only option to get another Xfinity modem? (current one replaced only 2 months ago).

Without special equipment or software the best test is just try moving it closer, if things improve then you know that’s your problem.

Xfinity gateways don’t have great wifi. You have a few options if it is indeed wifi
-Use your own router (can return their gateway and use your own modem too, or put their gateway in bridge mode which is modem only)
-Use wifi extenders (not the greatest option but usually enough for these cams)
-Add a wired access point or two (similar to extenders but much better option, if you can get cables run to where you need them).

Repositioning or moving the router can help too, getting it up higher, reducing obstructions, getting it closer to the cams or more central, etc. Reducing the 2.4ghz channel width to 20mhz only can help, but I’m not sure if they let you access that setting anymore. Same with wifi channel, while “auto” usually does well, finding and using a less congested one can help, but they may not let you change that. Xfinity is pretty locked down these days.

If it doesn’t work better when closer, then it could be something else in their gateway (the router/firewall portion) that is interfering, but haven’t seen any recent reports of that (has been an issue in the past with a couple of their models).
