I just set up my new v4 camera and noticed that it changes back to 360p when I would restart it. Anyone else have this issue? Is there a fix or setting I’m missing?
There are other threads here discussing the cams reverting to 360. I have not noticed this when rebooting the cam and mine is in a “moderate” wifi signal area. However I have noticed if I switch out of the wyze app and then back in (without closing and reopening the app) it goes to 360. It also does it when my phone has a very weak wifi signal (and I’m guessing it will do it if the cam has a weak signal also). It seems to be the app doing it, not the cam itself.
When you reboot the cam are you switching out of the app and back in?
I just rebooted mine and it came back up at 2.5. Tried twice, once while watching the live view (attempting to reconnect) and the other I rebooted, went back to the main screen, then back into the cam after 30 seconds. Both times it came back up at 2.5. I suspect your issue may be related to one of the other things I mentioned above and not the actual reboot.
I think Wyze probably needs to implement a feature where it attempts to come up at 2.5k every time it loads live view then scales down as needed, but that would probably cause issues for people who manually change it to 360 and want it to stay that way due to poor signal/bandwidth.
With the older model cams it would ask if you wanted to reduce the resolution when it had connection issues, I don’t know if it remembered that setting or not but whatever they’re doing with the older ones probably needs to be done on the v4.
Yes, I just noticed this on my V4 and find It another disappointment in this version of the cam. Does that mean that it is recording in 360 when it’s set to 360? What’s going on when I don’t have the app open? Does the app only record at the max resolution? Can someone confirm this?
I tested last night and it recorded at 2.5K to the SD card the entire time even when I forced my phone into situations that caused the live view to change to 360.
The only two scenarios I’ve found that cause the app to switch to 360 are poor wifi signal on the phone (I’m guessing poor cell signal would do it too), or switching out of the wyze app to another app while watching the live view of the v4, then switching back in, without closing the app. If I switch out, close the app, then go back in it is fine, so it seems to be attempting to switch back to the wyze app while the live view is running causes it.
The first is something they should probably improve on, either go back to the old model of asking if you want to downgrade it, or add some logic to bump it back up automatically when things improve. The second I would guess is a bug.
Thank you for looking into this. I checked mine and it seems you are right about it switching when going to another app and them back without closing the Wyze app. How was you able to determine that it recorded in 2.5k? The video mine took was pretty poor and choppy so I’m not sure what it recorded in.
In my testing If it’s set at 360p and you hit record, it will record at 360p
It did seem that the SD card continuous recording footage did not change And stayed high resolution…
I forced the glitch to happen, noted the time, went back and reviewed the SD card video and it was 2.5K the whole time (even pulled a video and still frame from the video and file properties confirmed 2.5K).
Note if you record from the live view or take a picture, that will be in whatever resolution the cam is currently operating at.
If the video is choppy and low quality that implies a wifi signal issue (the video on the SD card is likely fine, but you don’t have enough bandwidth to view it smoothly).
Yes, recording or taking a picture from live view will use whatever quality is current set on the camera. But recording or taking a picture from the SD card will be 2.5K.
Another one I realized at some point a few months ago is if you download the image (and I’m guessing video if you have a subscription) from the event view, it is 360 always. So I’ve learned to go to the SD card at the time of the event and get it there. That’s on all of my cams, not just the v4. Maybe that’s because I’m not a subscriber though, I get low res still frames in the event.
Thank you for your explanation. I do know that the OG and v4 do not pick up my wifi signal very good. The v3 pro definitely picked it up better, but the video quality is not as good. You trade one feature for another it seems.
