I recently installed a new Wyze Cam Pan V4 and the camera at the moment is utterly useless. It spends the entire night focusing on stationary cars and indicating there is motion. When there actually is motion, it does a terrible job of recording the entire event (it’s fine on the MicroSD) by starting too late, stopping too soon, or if the motion comes anywhere near a stationary vehicle (parking lot) it immediately focuses on the stopped vehicle instead of the motion going by lol. I’ve tried a myriad of different settings with sensitivity, smart/non-smart detections, turning off motion tagging, detection zones etc… Nothing seems to work
Is there an option to turn off the awful AI implementation? If the camera could strictly only record motion itself and not try tagging vehicles or people or anything like that, that would be great. I have Wyze cameras that work great and Wyze cameras also existed before all the AI stuff and they worked too. Why does the brand new 4k product not work?
As far as I know you can disable both the “smart tracking” and “smart events”, eliminating the “AI” (if you want to call it that), at which point all it looks at is motion, doesn’t try to identify anything.
So at the moment I have a detection zone with the car blacked out which does nothing as the camera still focuses in on the vehicle. This has been since turned off. I have only motion events turned on in “event recording”. The only options I see for “recording preferences” is All Events or Smart Detection Events. There is a customization option and I have turned all tags off except “other motion” which I believe only does the tagging on the event videos and not categorization on what to follow during recording.
Under “Pan Cam Controls” I have done the calibration and under “Smart Track” I have selected All Motion and not Smart Tracking. So far, the camera still has less than stellar performance.
The recording on vehicles approaching is still slow to respond which I assume is attributed to the sensitivity levels being set at 5. However, if I turn up the sensitivity, this increases the stationary object tracking issue drastically.
At this point, not sure what to do other than wait for firmware but is there any idea on when that will be?
If you have Smart Detection and Smart Track disabled it should simply be tracking motion, and not trying to determine “what” something is.
Detection zone doesn’t work if you have motion tracking or pan/scan enabled. Make sure you don’t have both of those features turned on (unless you specifically want that) as it could get confusing and make it seem like it is following/focusing on something, when in fact that’s just one of your waypoints that it is scanning between.
Sensitivity of 5 will definitely make it “slow to respond” until something is very close. You should not have to turn it down that low.
Default sensitivity (50 I think) and having “all motion” selected under smart tracking should have it only tracking things that move. Once motion stops, it should return back to the previous position after a bit. “Smart detections” only impact what it records/alerts on, doesn’t change anything with the way the cam moves to track stuff.
Turning on the “motion tagging” which puts a green box around what the camera has “seen” may help you identify why it is tracking certain things - reflections, shadows, etc.
Both the Motion Sensitivity and Sound Sensitivity scales for Cam Pan v4 are 1-10, so 5 is in the middle. These don’t use the 1-100 scales that some Cams use, because Wyze isn’t consistent with their controls throughout the UI.
I remember seeing a lot of complaints about Cam Pan v4 “tracking” stationary vehicles shortly after it was released last year. That was mentioned in several Forum topics at the time. I haven’t seen many complaints about that in recent months, though, and I figured the situation had probably been mostly resolved with firmware updates already, but maybe that’s not the case? I agree with @dave27’s suggestion to use Motion Tagging as an aid to troubleshooting. That and setting a Detection Zone are what I’d do to troubleshoot and try to reduce unwanted notifications from a parked vehicle, but I say that having never used one of these Cam Pan v4s outdoors (though the Detection Zone has worked well for me with a stationary Bulb Cam pointed at the driveway).
