I have (3) Cam Pan V4 cameras. Wyze says they are 4K video cameras. Indeed they are, but only when I open the app, select one of the cameras and manually adjust the video resolution to 4K. When I view a different camera or close the app, the Cam Pan V4 video resolution degrades immediately to lower resolution.
Before anyone tells me it is due to wifi band width / connection, understand I can watch any of these (3) cameras at 4K resolution for hours as long as the camera is open in the app and I have manually adjusted the video to 4K. That tells me wifi connectivity is very good. I can see the video is indeed at the highest resolution when I am watching it.
Any video captured by the camera when i am not watching the camera is at a lower resolution than 4K. As a security camera that means it is not a 4K camera. So what value is the Cam Pan 4K capability providing? Almost NONE.
Wyze needs to provide a default 4K resolution setting for each V4 camera. If connectivity drops, then and only then should the resolution degrade and when connectivity improves the camera returns to the default setting (4K). That is the only way the user gets what they paid for.
If your wifi connectivity is not up to 4K then don’t buy a Cam Pan V4, other lower resolution options are available.
I believe you’re supposed to leave it at “auto” in order to stay at 4K all the time. I’ve seen others mention that setting it to 4K can result in it changing.
The only reason they should adjust downward is if they think there is some sort of bottleneck. Your local live stream may work fine (since it just stays on your LAN) but uploading events/video to the cloud (especially if you have a lot of motion or are using smart detections) may be hitting a limit. What is your internet upload speed?
(2) cameras are 1600 miles away, (1) camera is 15 feet away. All behave the same. 15 foot camera upload speed is 30 mbps, 1600 mile cameras is 1 GB up / 2 GB down fiber optic connection.
I’m seeing now you tagged this as web view - I’m not very familiar with that but I believe it does stream at a lower resolution than the app.
If it is happening everywhere, reports here are that the cam will revert to auto when you exit the app/stop viewing it, and if it senses there is any issue or congestion, the quality will reduce. Are yours connected to 2.4ghz or 5ghz wifi?
I was required to select (2) tags when I created the initial submission. I only chose webview because I can see the resolution change almost instantly on webview or my phone / tablet when I manually select 4k. I don’t believe webview has anything to do with the cameras defaulting to resolution less than 4K.
I AGREE 100% , its a SNEAKY WAY of selling crap 1080 cameras that have 4k only when you watch them. I also wanted to be recording in 4k format thats why I purchased a few ,but then I found out that I had been screwed by WYZE …technically. Just like why can’t we change the brightness and contrast etc ? Some situations call for a manual adjustment, BUT the half Azz programmers in all their wizdumb decided to let the cameras firmware decide whats best for me !!! I am currently looking to get rid of all my WYZE cameras, all 9 of them . Tired of the indecisiveness in this company, IF YOU WANT TO BE SUCCESSFUL : LET THE CONSUMER DO ALL THE ADJUSTMENTS THEY WANT AND FOR THISE WHO DON’T NEED TO ADJUST ANYTHING…SELECT AUTO . AS FOR THE 4K CLAIM…THATS PARTIAL FALSE ADVERTISING, THESE ARE NOT FULL TIME 4k cameras., they are 4k selectable during viewing mode ONLY .
