4k Lock for Cam Pan V4

I use my cameras to stream live on tiktok for meteors. I have several cameras, and I switch between them. And when I do I lose 4k resolution. Same goes for any camera, my solarcam or a v4 cam. I lose the higher resolution. I would like there to be a way to lock in 4k or respective 2 or 2.5k, I have plenty of bandwidth.I have wifi7 and I have great coverage.

I am willing to beta test this for you as well. Thank you in advance

I’d be interested in knowing if anyone has actually tested the Cam Pan v4 stream for the changes described and whether anything is really “lost” when the Wi-Fi signal is consistently healthy? According to responses given by a Cam Pan v4 product manager on Reddit last year, the “Auto” setting that the Cam defaults to when loading the live stream is always supposed to be the highest quality the Cam is capable of producing as long as the network is good:

Those answers give the impression that this requested feature already exists, though I’m not really sure what the “dedicated 4K mode” is or how to set it (or even if it’s necessary to set it, because the PM responses indicate that the Cam already does this). I think maybe there’s an assumption among a lot of users that “Auto” is lower quality and not the same as “4K”, but I haven’t tested this myself or seen any data from anyone who has. :man_shrugging:

Using the webpage I live streamover tiktok. If I go to another camera and even with a different phone, the 4k drops to auto and some times 360. I have to open each camera on a separate device and leave it there. I just would like to see the option to lock it in so not matter what phone I use or which cam I am viewing the resolution doesn’t change unless I unlock it

Hi all — really appreciate this discussion, this is super helpful to see how everyone is using the cameras.

Just to add some context on how Pan v4 behaves today:

  • The default Auto mode isn’t a “lower quality” setting — it’s actually designed to dynamically deliver the highest possible bitrate (including 4K) when network conditions allow.

  • When you see it drop to 360p or similar, it usually means the system detected real-time network fluctuation and temporarily adjusted bitrate to keep the stream loading quickly and avoid interruptions.

In other words, Auto is trying to balance image quality and connection reliability in real time, rather than strictly prioritizing one over the other.

That said, the use case here — especially for scenarios like multi-camera monitoring or continuous streaming across devices — makes a lot of sense.

We’re taking this feedback seriously and evaluating how different approaches might impact overall streaming experience.

One important tradeoff is that forcing a fixed resolution could make streams more sensitive to network conditions, which may result in slower load times, buffering, or even failed connections in some cases — something Auto mode is specifically designed to prevent.

Really appreciate everyone sharing their setups and experiences here — this is exactly the kind of input that helps us improve :folded_hands:

Hopefully this will help. last night I was streaming, and I was using my cam pan v4 and my solarcam. I use two separate phones, to manage the cameras. However, as soon as I open up the app on the second phone the first camera defaults back to a lower resolution, every time. So ultimately, I have to have two phones open, one on each camera, set the resolution and leave it. as soon as I go out of the app, the resolution lowers. Locking it on 4 k or whatever the highest resolution is of the camera. Would allow me to access other apps on my phone and maintain the highest resolution on the camera while using the web page. On that note, being able to adjust the resolution and pan, tilt on the web app would be helpful too. Thank you
