I’ve noticed on the new wyze cam pan V4 with the latest firmware that when it detects a person, if the Pan scan is set to move, it will override the detection. For example, the camera is in its normal Pan scan mode, it detects a person and starts tracking them, and then one second later it moves to the next position in the pan scan settings. Tracking should override the scanning to the next location. If it detects someone, it should continue tracking up person until the motion stops, but it’s not.
I’m with you although I suggest the reason why may differ. I have motion tracking turned on so I can follow what the Cam is doing. My test cases are our dog in the backyard and the Gardner when he mows the backyard.
What I have observed, many times, is the camera will track until the subject pauses, maybe one second. The camera thinks the event is over and either goes home or to the next way point. This results in many more events, they are short, and the Cam misses a lot of movement as the Cam is going home or the next way point.
The older CP v3 was much better as it seemed to wait for seconds before aborting.
There may be use cases where this operation is needed but I can’t think of them. I’m hoping that maybe a longer wait is implemented.
Anyway, I don’t see a workaround.
Thanks for the response! In my case, the motion doesn’t stop. For example, someone was walking down the road in the distance and the camera detected them as a person, the green bars highlighted the person and they never stopped walking, then the camera panned to the next position immediately after detecting them. Hopefully someone from Wyze can take a look at the settings in the backend ![]()
I imagine something like this would involve a firmware fix to improve the logic for Pan Scan and Smart Track. I definitely agree with this:
I wonder if asking about this kind of thing in the latest beta firmware release topic would help this issue get some traction. I didn’t see anything specific to this function in that announcement, though they’re apparently still trying to make improvements with this Cam.
That seems to me like the “return to Home Waypoint” or “continue to next Waypoint” logic is probably too aggressive. They’ve had notes about changing the “return logic” for Solar Cam Pan, but I haven’t seen the same thing mentioned for Cam Pan v4. I do see this in the notes for the 4.70.0.2595 firmware release for Cam Pan v4, but that doesn’t really provide any detail:
Optimized Smart Tracking priority logic.
Maybe they need to “optimize” some more. What firmware are you using?
Welcome to the Forum, @brently82! ![]()
What firmware version am I using?
4.70.0.3005
Thanks for the warm welcome and ideas!
If you’re using that β firmware version already, then that topic I linked earlier might be a good place for asking about or suggesting this particular sort of change and/or reporting your current experience and what your expectation might be. My understanding is that Wyze employees tend to look at feedback in the Beta and Wyze News categories more than in most other categories, because those two are official and only Wyze employees can create new topics there.
