Wyze Cam Pan V3 MAJOR FLAW

So I don’t know if anybody else has had the cam pan V3 just stopped working and essentially like its not getting power. I’ve had two do the same thing but the difference was, the second one I decided to do my own troubleshooting. I carefully took the camera part delicately and slowly and I found what I think is a major flaw that people would never know about because it’s internally in the camera. And knowing wyze, if it’s under warranty, they will just send you a new one I’ll give you a gift card or something and they would never ask for it back and possibly never diagnose the issue. So if your camera seemingly just no longer turns on and doesn’t get power, it very well could be this issue.

Here’s what I found.
Inside the base module, not the one with the camera itself, if you take the bottom plate off, you take out the bearing, and you unscrew the next piece which is where the power cord plugs into it, I first noticed that whatever the piece is that is supposed to stop the camera from turning all the way around, was worn down. Now keep in mind my camera was still within a warranty period. So it’s not that old. If you carefully look in there or you carefully remove that piece, there is a power ribbon that goes from that piece to a mini board on the inside of the base box. In my case, it was completely unplugged and from looking at the little stop mechanism, the camera eventually skipped it and was turning all the way around and unplugged itself from the inside. Unfortunately I didn’t get any help by calling customer service and I tried reporting it and nobody wanted to take me seriously at the call center. This is the whole reason why I decided to take it apart in the first place is because after dealing with customer service and trying to get help I decided that I’m just going to take it into my own hands instead of trying to rely on wyze to do anything. Has anyone else had their cam pan V3 just stopped working?

Interesting find. I wonder if your stop was just poorly molded from the beginning, maybe a bad batch? Mine reboot once a week (so they do the full stop to stop calibration, which is why I only have them reboot once a week), and they are constantly following motion but rarely hitting the stop during normal use (but it does happen from time to time, especially the one that uses IR at night, sometimes it follows itself into a wall and hits the stops).

But at 2 years I have not had one rotate past the stop and unplug itself. Maybe there is something in your use case/environment that causes the camera to frequently hit the stop?

I was wondering the same thing honestly. It’s crazy because I bought two of them at different times and one I bought from the company directly and one on Amazon. I live in Southern California so the weather is definitely not a problem I believe that would be affecting it as well as it is mounted about 5 ft back from the awning under a carport that is enclosed on three sides. I should have noted that I never seen the camera completely turn past 360° but based off of the look of the stopping points and the way the camera was disconnected on the inside, the only logical conclusion is that it would have continually rotated past its point in order to pull the power ribbon out of the connection. So the one camera like I said is under the carport The other is on My front porch in a very similar manner where the sides of the porch are enclosed as well as the main walls of my unit and it sits about 6 and 1/2 ft away from the edge of the roof line. It’s just super weird and has me scratching my head.

It is a fair conclusion, but it is also possible that your camera just rotates more than average and that cable worked itself loose. But both of mine often go through very large ranges of motion and haven’t done that, so who knows. One is mounted on a white garage and the IR lights cause it to stare at the wall a lot which is almost at its full stop. Dunno, strange regardless.

Probably some weird combination of factors.
