Just because the cam shows No Cooldown that doesn’t mean you are save. I would test the camera by creating motion in front of it then do it again in 30-40 seconds and see if you get two different recordings. All four of my WCOv1 show no cooldown on the app but they will still not record a second videos within 1 min after the first one records.
You may be good to go though. The 6 November 2023 firmware is the one that killed everything.
holy wah…ok… @CatHome and @Antonius
I want to start out with thanking both of you because on top of having amazing graphics to show exactly what you mean and exactly what you’re speaking of making it ridiculously clear that you know what you’re talking about, you both are insanely well informed and know exactly what to look for and what to be aware of.
im going to tag in some people that would Thoroughly enjoy such discourse because as I’m sure you all know both the mods and the Mavens deal with people that don’t do their homework sometimes and we work much harder than is needed sometimes. You guys have both absolutely knocked it out of the park and I want you to have the recognition that you deserve! i’ve been doing this maven gig for a moment now and To have someone very well articulate, arrow, and highlight exactly what they’re experiencing is refreshing but then to have yet another person articulate How to test such things and take the words straight out of my keyboard. You guys are going to take me out of a job!
the @Mavens are completely voluntary and We serve the community at the best of our abilities because we enjoy helping people and we are die hard tech nerds. But this is the exact kind of discourse that we want to recognize and point out to other users because you guys did exactly what any one of us would have done in numerous situations over the years. Thank you! You guys have added to the community in more ways than you recognize.
now… @CatHome I am eager to know the outcome of your tests Definitely feel free to tag me back. Do my best to keep up with this if you don’t tag me but tagging me in will definitely help but thank you both for your involvement. This is the type of thing that adds to the community and involves more members than you realize. So many people see this type of post and increase their knowledge because of it.
@Antonius Then logic would dictate that Firmware 4.17.4.418 (January 4, 2023) would return a V1 Camera back to a state of existence that would cure the V1 of the “No Cooldown” virus, would it not?
I think I have tried that in the past with the v1s, it didn’t cure the camera of it’s ills.
But, my 61 year old brain may be failing me here.
So, I’ll try it again.
So, my current testing is as follows all are set to “No Cooldown” and " 1 minute Maximum Video Length.
*Connected to Newly purchased Wyze Base Station on Firmware 4.16.3.117 (April 25, 2022) are the following 3 WCOs:
Newly purchased WCO v2 on Firmware 4.48.2.62
Existing WCO v2 on Firmware 4.48.4.418 (January 4, 2023)
Existing WCO v1 on Firmware 4.17.4.418 (January 4, 2023)
Connected to Existing Wyze Base Station on Firmware 4.16.4.523 (January 24, 2024)
Existing WCO v1 on Firmware 4.17.4.418 (January 4, 2023)
The Newly purchased WCO v2 has maintained the “No Cooldown” setting (
WCO v2 and it’s associated Base Station from the Starter Pack are on the firmware they come with out of the box, I did not update them)
I had the two WCO v2’s running side by side ‘watching a YouTube video’ and the new WCO v2 appears to be recording with ‘no cooldown’ other than a few seconds between stop and start of the video clips.
I’ll check the other three camera’s tomorrow morning, to see if they magically stick on ‘No Cooldown’
@Bam any word from the powers that be at actually resolving this “No Cooldown” issue once and for all?
not heard anything yet.
I’m not terribly hopeful myself as I think the focus would probably be more on the newer cameras, and I know they’re focusing on some new things that are being worked on especially on the AI side. So putting resources toward an older device like this more than likely would not be priority. But if I do talk to anybody I will definitely bring it up again.
I purchased this Wyze Cam Outdoor Starter Bundle v2 (1 Camera + Base Station) on April 2, 2025.
Hopefully Wyze doesn’t continue with that mindset that it’s an older device, when that device can be purchased directly from them via Amazon today.
I’ll refrain from what I really want to say for now on this issue.
Instead, I’ll offer up the following from my test results:
After running the two WCO v2s, and two WCO v1s for 24 hours, 3 of the 4 camera’s are have maintained the “No Cooldown” setting, and 1 of the 4 did covertly swap to a One Minute Cooldown.
Camera’s are named as follows in my app, first number is the Firmware of the Camera, 2nd number is the firmware of the Wyze Base Station it is connected to:
1
WCOv2-4.48.2.62
4.16.3.117
(This WCOv2 and and this Base Station purchased on April 2nd, 2025, and put into service on April 3rd, 2025, Firmware has NOT been updated since unboxing it, it maintains the “No Cooldown Setting” since put into service)
2
WCOv2-4.48.4.418
4.16.3.117
(This WCOv2 had it’s firmware downgraded to 4.48.4.418, then was removed from an existing Base Station(Firmware 4.16.4.523), and connected to the new Base Station(4.16.3.117) that was purchased on April 2nd, 2025, after 24 hours it maintains the “No Cooldown” Setting)
3
WCOv1-4.17.4.418
4.16.3.117
(This WCOv1 was downgraded to firmware 4.17.4.118 and joined to the new Base Station(4.16.3.117) and maintains the “No Cooldown” Setting)
4
WCOv1-4.17.4.418
4.16.4.523
(This WCOv1 was downgraded to firmware 4.17.4.118 and Left on an existing Base Station that is running Firmware 4.16.4.523. Overnight, it covertly reverted to the 1 Minute Cooldown. I changed it back to “No Cooldown” and it sticks, but I’m fairly certain it will covertly change back to 1 Minute overnight)
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
@Bam I need the Wyze Base Station Firmware: 4.16.3.117 to flash onto my other three Base Stations to further test, based on the following:
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
Camera’s 1, 2 & 3 are maintaining “No Cooldown”, and they are connected to a Base Station that is on Firmware 4.16.3.117 (and the respective Camera Firmware listed for each of those three cameras)
Camera 4, which has the same firmware(4.17.4.418) as Camera 3, reverts to "1 Minute cooldown, but Camera 4 is on the current Base Station Firmware of: 4.16.4.523.
I’m going to add a 4th Camera (WCOv1) to the New Base Station (4.16.4.523) tonight, that WCOv1 will have the current Firmware (4.17.4.427) for a WCOv1, this will be a test to see what the Cooldown period will do with this parameters.
I’ve also created a log files the four WCO’s in case someone at Wyze can use my testing to resolve this issue:
1813326
1813327
1813334
1813335
Just when I thought there was hope…
Crash, and Burn…
Camera’s 2, 3, (and as expected, 5) all Covertly, in the middle of the night reverted to a 1 Minute Cooldown
Back to the Drawing Board, or perhaps the Chopping Block.
I think I have 30 days to return the Recently purchased Wyze Cam Outdoor Starter Bundle v2 via Amazon.
So as I continue to swing blindly into the Wind, I offer up another log for when I added that 4th camera to the new base station that had the current firmware (4.17.4.427):
1813602
I’ll continue to swing blindly into the wind as I have time over the next 29 days, then return my recent purchase to Amazon for the full price.
A little help from those at Wyze to resolve this issue sure would be appreciated, what say you @wyzedave ?
================
Updating the above:
After having verified Camera’s 2 and 3 reverted to a 1 Minute Cooldown and posting that last message, I deleted Camera 5 and added it back in to a base station other than the New Base Station (Firmware 4.16.3.11).
I then took a quick look at Camera’s 1, 2, & 3, and much to my surprise, Camera’s 2 (WCOv2 on 4.48.4.118) and Camera 3 (WCOv1 on 4.17.4.418) are showing a “No Cooldown” for the Recording Cooldown
I are confused.
As @Antonius suggested, I need to check to see if my New WCOv2 is actually respecting that “No Cooldown” setting, implying that it might just be Eye Candy.
Back to Swinging in the Wind.
I’ll leave things as they are, and give it 48 hours or more to see if Camera’s 2 & 3 stay at “No Cooldown”, and then devise a way to verify there is no Eye Candy on that “No Cooldown” on those two Cameras.
Here’s a few more logs, for when Camera 5 was deleted from the New Base Station, then added to another base station:
1813614
1813615
1813616
1813617
1813619
I gave up after one year.
And, very well may join you in giving up, but, not just yet.
I purchased a brand new, from Wyze (on Amazon), out of the box v2 starter bundle, with the expectation that it should work as designed when attached to a Cam Plus subscription.
I’m still amazed that Wyze would continue to sell the WCO v2 knowing good and well, that the Cooldown Period reverts to 1 Minute once the base station and camera are updated to the current Firmware.
If I could only get Wyze to provide me with the Firmware(4.16.3.117) for the Base Station that I’m running, so as to be able to flash my three other Base Stations
@wyzeli, do you have any words of wisdom for this issue? Will this issue ever be fixed?
If you have a connection @1% you might try a manual f/w flash:
https://support.wyze.com/hc/en-us/articles/360057688071-How-to-flash-your-Wyze-Cam-Outdoor-firmware-manually
There is a link on that page to the firmware.
Video on youtube “Wyze Outdoor Camera disassembly” His battery was dead and he was looking to replace. In subsequent video he found battery was good but moisture got into the camera; burnt out a pin on the ribbon cable to power strip.
Good morning fellow WCO owners, a new thread on the WCO “No Cooldown” issue has been opened and @WyzeLi has acknowledged this issue and has stated he will “work with the dev team to fix this as quickly as we can”.
