Wyze Cam Outdoor - battery drains when cam is off same rate as when cam is on

Hello - I have 2 Wyze Cam Outdoor (v1 I think), one purchased in December 2020 and the other in September 2021.

I have them both posted over the same location but leave just one powered on at a time so I can switch to the other easily when the battery on the other gets low. Mainly because it’s a pain to take them down and put back up, but primarily because it is useful when I am away for a long period of time and can’t charge the cams.

The battery on the camera powered “off” has always drained at some rate in the off state, but much less than the cam powered “on”. For example, both powered to 100%, one off and one on. When the “on” cam battery is around 30%, the “off” cam still has 60% or more battery remaining. I assume this is because even in the off state, it stays connected to wifi which would use some power.

However since roughly December 2023, the cam that is powered “off” is draining at the exact same rate as the cam that is powered “on”. This basically renders it useless for the above purpose of switching from one to the other when the battery gets low.

Base station is connected via ethernet and is updated to the latest firmware 4.16.4.523 and both cams are on updated firmware 4.17.4.427. There have been no changes to my home network or wifi that I am aware of (I certainly have not made any).

This seems to have started fairly recently, roughly early December 2023. Anyone else with the same issue? Thoughts?

Sounds like a bug introduced when they updated the firmware. You’re the first person I’ve seen report this.

I had searched for similar reports but couldn’t find any. Hoping to hear it’s not just me!
