Wyze Cam Monthly Updates — May 2018

My only request is to improve playback to automatically jump to the next event when I start my search. This is a must and is the standard setting on most other cameras or software .

Feature Request: I would find it helpful if Push Notices could be enabled individually for each of the four alert types (motion, sound, CO, Smoke Detector) by individual camera, rather than on a global basis for all cameras for all alerts. For example, on some cameras I would like Push Notices only when the CO or Smoke Alarm alerts occur. On some cameras, I want no Push Notices even though I still want to record alerts. On another camera, I would like Push Notices for motion only.

I had to disable Push Notices due to the volume of messages from five cameras.

Hello:) it would be a nice feature if I could do a temporary pause on the notifications. Or if I could change the times for the weekend. My set times work great for week days but on the weekends when we are home I get a million notifications. If I turn them off I forget to turn them back on.

Thanks!!

Valerie

"I would like to see Apple Homekit integration now that it’s easier to integrate with"
I too would love to see this, but don't hold your breath because they will never buy and include the chips that are needed to do this.

+1

You don’t need the Apple chipset, you can use Homebridge (GitHub - homebridge/homebridge: HomeKit support for the impatient. · GitHub). I use it right now for Hue lights, Weemo sockets, and my own built garage door opener. It’s not off the shelf consumer product, but if we could get a homebridge plugin for Wyze it would be possible to view the streams via Homekit.

“Siri! Show me the front door camera”

The ability to turn cameras on/off through Alexa would be awsome!

For many homebridge is too messy to work with.

Setting up X-Code and installing Node.js is simply not user friendly for many people.

With IFTTT, you can turn on/off motion detection and/or notifications for Wyzecam. IFTTT also has Alexa integration. So, even before Wyze implements Alexa integration, it is possible to Alexa’s IFTTT Specific Phrase triggers to have Wyze perform these actions.

Thank you to the whole WYZE team that has built an amazing line of cameras. So exciting to live in the future. Alexa integration is going to be huge. Hope it works like Ring doorbell and have Alexa pull video to fire stick and watch on TV. Also you guys should think about making these cameras Apple Home Kit compatible, as long as Apple doesn’t charge you an arm and a leg

this exactly what i want. want to be able to see my front door while working at my desktop.

I blocked the IR LED’s using triple electrical tape to block out the IR LED’s. I have the camera in a small waterproof halogen outdoor light that has a glass lens. I thought of cutting out the IR LED’s, but on another forum for the DeFang camera, they said that if you cut the LED’s it effects the power to the main board and the camera really heats up. So it would be really great to be able to turn the IR LED’s off via software.

I would love if you guys just added the ability to change between night/day mode from IFTTT. I am currently using IFTTT with an application in SmartThings (webcore) to integrate control of my wyzecam with the rest of my smarthome. It’s great to have control of motion detection based on logic, so I can have it turn on when we leave or go to bed. But honestly the auto day/night mode SUCKS (constantly flicking on/off and can’t decide what it should do) so I have to manually change it at night and then when I get up in the morning. If you guys added control of this via IFTTT then I could just have it flick on when I tell smartthings we are going to bed, and then off again when we get up in the morning. I love that you are working on turning on/off the camera from the app also, if you could add that toggle to IFTTT as well it would be PERFECT!

RTSP including the WYZE app working, in the case your NVR/ “Blue Iris” server stops working.

Just a heads up on the v2’s. Since the latest firmware update, I’ve noticed a substantial increase of the fish eye effect. Walls and other objects with a vertical profile are much more curved than they used to be. Otherwise, video quality and clarity are still top notch. I always view in HD mode and never have any issues. Oddly enough, my v3 does not have the same exaggerated bending effect on vertical objects.

+2

It, too, have noticed the new, significant V2 fisheye distortion since the last firmware update!

+1 for NAS / NFS / SMB / ONVIF / RTSP / nextCloud / ETC recording.

Get enough of these cams going at 1080p and you might hit your uplink limit since most ISPs give less than 1/10th of the download speed in upload speed.

Plus - if your internet goes down like Spectrum often does - there goes your recording!

This way the customers can take steps to protect their footage better (offline storage, UPS’s for storage appliances, etc).

Personally I’m going to use a UPS to power my PoE switch and then run PoE splitters to the cameras so they will have an effective battery backup and killing my cameras will take slightly more than someone flipping the breaker on my power panel.

Has anyone tested OpenIPC with the new Wyze Cam Pan?

I contacted OpenIPC and they said they “didn’t know if it worked” which seemed lame since it is their software after all.

Would love to buy it, but not until it works with the new Wyze Cam Pan…

Excellent idea about the UPS’s! I have several APC UPS’s dedicated to security, for the very reasons you listed

Also looking forward to offline storage, something much larger than a simple 32Gb SD card.
