Wyze Cam Hacked

As a general rule, in 2.4Ghz channels, you should really only use channels 1,6, and 11.

Reason is that most ISP routers are set to maximum width instead of a narrow band as the post above references. Due to that, these channels are the only channels that do not overlap with adjacent channels.

This is why 2.4 is a horrible idea for IoT, but unfortunately, due to Cost considerations, supporting 5GHz is apparently beyond the IoT industries pricing models.

I am fortunate, I live on property that provides me a significant distance between me and anyone else using any channels. If you live in an apartment building, you will regret having devices on 2.4, and I’d highly recommend trying to find products that support the 5Ghz band.

My V2’s are repeatedly getting “used” by my roommates to spy on me. I’m stuck in a lease and I am NOT going to ruin my credit and break my lease for these pip squeaks. They don’t work and are amateur hackers. They get in my room and access my cameras. Or they use those apps on Android like Tiny Cam or I Spy. They know the IP of each camera and I always know when they’re watching because I stop getting alerts. What good is 2FFA if it never even prompts ME about logging in??? I don’t even know my password right now cuz I’ve changed it so many times!! I tried setting it up thru Luxriot, but Wyze isn’t compatible with them. I’ve tried the troubleshooting steps to get em to work, to no avail. They shut the internet off or cut the power to my room when they lose access to my cameras, so I have battery backup that I made for them. It’s really quite simple really. Plug the camera into a cell phone battery bank and put the bank on charger. When the camera is plugged in the 5v charger actually powers the camera. When power is cut too the battery bank, it automatically switches over to battery bank power for the camera. And it’s seamless. The camera never goes off. It’s my understanding that not all battery banks act in this seamless switching, but the 20,000mAh Anker does flawlessly. Anyways, that doesn’t stop then from cutting the internet. But if I ran the camera feed thru a server on my laptop (which eliminates the power cutting issue) and the feed was on continuous record, I could catch the lil f’ers on camera and send the proof to my landlord. Either they’d be evicted (preferable) or I would be graciously allowed out of my lease. I doubt there’s any legal recourse, and I don’t really care I want to sleep and shower ALONE!!! Whatchu got for me Wyze?? Is there free server software for Wyze Cam V2’s on RTSP?? Or can I lock the lil [Mod Edit] out of my cameras???

Are you using RTSP now?
In any case they can’t access your cameras without knowing your Wyze Login info and / or your RTSP Login info. They got it somehow.
They may have just reset your cameras and added them to their own account. Can you still access them?

Yes, I can still access them. However, Wyze has a fatal flaw, in my own opinion, that you can change your wifi settings by pressing the button under the camera, letting it scan, then just put the new user pass for that wifi. It doesn’t show that my cameras have been shared or whatnot. They get in once, then they’re in til I reset the user/pass on the cam again. 2FFA doesn’t do anything when i switch the user/pass for the wifi. I’ve tried running the cams thru an extender, the 2.4ghz, and the 5ghz. I’m not good with networking, so my effortrs take days to complete. I wanna set em up thru Luxriot, but this has taken weeks, and I’m still not connected!!

If someone with a different account does the setup process with a camera that currently attached to your account, it will be deleted and won’t show up for your account. You won’t have access anymore.

probably an audio scramble. My neighbor is doing that for sure i have them placing it on video. My internet provider confirmed an audio scrambler could also cause wifi jamming. The FCC says if you are being jammed to report it to them. Interference is illegal. As long as you’re sure do that. Then get another camera plus a skin for it so it blends with the background and hide it and use that as you’re main camera.

@Thedivorcee
I know that this is an old thread, but from what you are describing, it would constitute a felony in at least most states. Go have a chat with your local law enforcement. Your scumbag roommates could end up with a new mailing address - prison.

Note, I am not a lawyer, nor do I play one on television - and I did not stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

Hi, Gwendolyn,

I am having the same issues. Mics being turned on. Cams turned off,

Could you please provide some guidance on what I can do?

@FedUp

Hello and welcome to the community. I would contact security@wyze.com with any info you have about this issue and as a good practice use 2FA if you are not already using it.

Holy crap. EVERYONE thought i was crazy or high on drugs because this exact same scenario happened to me for about 6 months. It almost did drive me insane. My cameras would go off when i pulled outta the drive and come back on when i came back, with missing footage of course. It’s like they used smart things or Google home and set a rule for when I’m home or away. I finally caught them by placing an old phone on video inside. Was neighbor crazy new bf jealous that a single guy lived next store. It stopped when i busted him and she kicked him out so it obviously was him but never got to find out how he did it. But i feel ur pain and lived that nightmare

Really the only possibilities are that they had your wyze login info (or you had shared a cam with someone in that household via a guest account) or were using a wifi jammer. Or they had access to shut off your power or unplug the cam.

But the symptoms you describe sound more like you had the GPS feature enabled that disables/enables the cams depending whether you’re home or away… sounds like it was set a bit backwards from what most people would do in that case though.

My cams are also hacked. I’ve got 2 OGs, and 2 V4s. I know they’re hacked because I hear the people across the street reacting to the things I say. Even when I am wispering! This is currently happening to me and has been for the past year and a half

These cams have a hard enough time picking up normal speech. They aren’t hearing your whispers. Your issue is something else entirely, that can’t be addressed here.

My V4 can’t hear what the :raccoon: gang is saying about me so I had to teach them sign language. :rofl:

You can’t hear the voices in your own head?

I know ex military often have hearing issues but that’s excessive :wink:

I pretty much imagine all the :raccoon: around here are always just flipping me off. They have that sort of vibe to them. Or maybe I watched “the great outdoors” too many times.

I’ve been having the same thing happen to me for some while now. Camera is jammed from outside and I can have hours of missing recordings. I don’t see how Wyze cannot be aware of this being able to happen! It certainly does. I’ve spoken to Wyze about it in the past but they denied the possibility. They need to up their technology. Where’s the security and peace of mind the camera is supposed to give? I learned from some research that the wifi frequency has to change to make the jamming more difficult to succeed. As per Verizon their sorry but they can’t give me a different wifi spot. They only use one.

Hours of missing recordings on the SD card or on cam plus?

SD card can’t be jammed, even if the someone is jamming your wifi.

If cam plus, what makes you certain it is jamming and not just issues with your wifi or internet?

Hi. I know it’s being jammed. I have an apt I rent in my private home that Ilive in, leased to one person. This person now has a friend that has just about moved in. Water bill is increased. My tenant denied all. She realized I learned about the 2nd party letting themselves in daily because they have the keys in hand approaching the entrance, and are not ringing doorbell like a guest, by my checking it on the Wyze. Now when I hear them enter/leave I check the camera and nothing. It cuts dead to the minute. Now there is no camera footage every time they enter or leave the hhouse and it stays this way till I fix it.

Sorry. It’s a cam plus. No SD card.

They could simply be unplugging the power to the camera or the internet router. “Jamming” requires specialized equipment. Regardless, there is nothing wyze or any company can do about someone locally interfering with the camera. I’d recommend putting an SD card in it, though that won’t help if they’re unplugging the power, it will help if they’re doing something with the wifi or internet.

Or maybe the person is just going in a different way now and the camera isn’t picking it up…
