Wyze App draining my iPhone 13

No the app was definitely not running in the background. It was not general battery usage that was the problem. It specifically showed the Wyze app using all of the CPU usage in the background for the last 12 hours.

Weird, here is what my battery usage shows for Wyze app.

I don’t know what to tell you. On Feb 20th, battery usage shows Wyze app had Background activity for 4h 39m and for Feb 21st, it shows 11h 30m for background activity as below.

Have you deleted the app and installed a fresh copy? Not updating, just long press and select Remove App. Then go into the App Store and download a fresh copy.

Another thing that will drain the battery is geo fencing. It is part of automations in the Wyze app. It triggers an automation based on location. For example, I have one set whenever I go to the cottage as soon as I get within 500 ft of the cottage the notifications get disabled and whenever I am outside that 500 ft radius notifications get enabled. I only enable that just before a leave for the cottage and disable when I get home as it drains the battery really fast. Do you have something similar?

Thanks for replying.

Yes, when I said I deleted the app and re-installed it that is exactly what I did. I do not have any automations. I haven’t seen any background activity at all for the Wyze app since I deleted and re-installed it. It is all on-screen time for the Wyze app.

We will see how long this lasts.

:crossed_fingers:

Well, all of a sudden this morning my iPhone showed 24% battery and yet I charged it last night. I looked at the battery usage and low and behold, Wyze had used the battery for over 5 hours in the background.

I again deleted the app and re-installed it. I am going to upgrade to 26.3.1. However, I doubt that is going to make a difference based on what’s been happening.

Wyze App draining my iPhone 13 revisited

My original post was closed because it wasn’t updated for some time.

I am still having the same Wyze App draining my battery on my iPhone 13 because of background activity even though background refresh is disabled. I have the latest update to the iPhone and the Wyze App. It has been happening across various versions of iOS and the Wyze App.

Every time it happens, I delete the app. I restart my iPhone. I re-install the app. I restart my iPhone and then use the app. A day or so later, it starts showing up under Battery using the battery in background mode for hours.

Wyze doesn’t seem to care. I am very close to permanently deleting the app and getting rid of all of my cameras and other devices. This is completely ridiculous.

If anyone has a suggestion on what to look for to stop the app from using all of my battery, please let me know.

That’s standard for several categories here in the Forum for topics to auto-close after ~3 months of no activity. I have re-opened your original topic and moved your new topic here in order to preserve context and continuity and so that the discussion can continue with visibility to iOS users already tracking this topic.

I don’t use iOS, so I can’t provide much in the way of direct advice for this particular situation, but I hope that other iOS users see this and can offer some assistance.

I use the iOS app 3.18.0 (15) and a iPhone 16E anad have no issues with battery use by the WYZE app. Havve you checked your location services setting (Privacy &Security) > Location Services > and set it to only when using the app?

@Crease - thank you for moving the new post to my old one.

@Antonius - Thank you for responding.

Since posting, I noticed a few strange things.

  1. Wyze app does not show up under Location Services at all.
  2. My Wyze air purifier had lost connection to Wi-Fi.

So I fixed the air purifier issue by adding it back as a new device.

I then forced the Wyze app to show up under Location Services. I cannot remember how I did that but it eventually showed up. I then set Location Services to Never for the Wyze App. I do not need the app to know where I am as I do not use any geofencing, etc services. We will see what happens. I have restarted my iPhone since doing all of this.

I have another issue where my lock and home screen is using up all of my battery. However, this may have to do with my attempt to link my iPhone to my Windows 11 system. I have since unlinked it and restarted my iPhone yet again.

We will see what happens with battery usage after all of these changes.

Here is an update.

So the Wyze app has been behaving nicely until August 24th. I noticed the next day that on the 24th, the app had used 7h 42m of the battery for background activity. However, it corrected itself. Normally when I see this extreme usage, I delete the app, restart the phone, install the app and restart the phone, etc.

However, I did nothing this time and it corrected itself and hasn’t shown up as background usage since the 24th.

Now, I see that there is a recent update to the Wyze app. I am not updating for now. I want to see what happens during the next week. There is also a minor iOS update to 26.6.1. I am currently on 26.6. I will delay that update as well.

Walter

I updated to iOS app 3.20.0 (20) and have iOS 26.6.1 , still no battery issues.
7hr 42m of background time? is that the total since you’ve owned your phone.?
Maybe you should look at your app storage and see what that shows. Settings > General > iPhone storage > WYZE app. I checked my iPAD the other day and the WYZE app had 4.73GB of storage. I off loaded the app then loaded the app. then loaded it again, storage back down to 613 MB.
This is my phone which I also recently did.

The 7h 42m was for one day - August 24th. Actually, I looked at it more closely and is was 7h 47m for August 23rd. For August 25th and 26th, it does not show up at all. Wyze is using only 640 MB of storage but I offloaded it and reinstalled it anyway. Storage went down to 628MB. App version is 3.19.0 (17).

I don’t know what to say but since early this year, I have seen the Wyze app use a lot of battery in the background even though it isn’t suppose to run in the background and I do not have location services enabled at all. At least, this last time, it didn’t completely deplete my battery and it actually stopped using it in the background without my knowledge.

My phone has background refresh turned on and location serivices while using. I have 0 (zero) time used for background as of 2 min ago. I used my WYZE app on the phone 14 min. today.

I don’t know what to tell you. I just looked today and the Wyze app has ran 7h 16m in the background today. I updated to 26.6.1 yesterday.

You have something weird going on for sure. Even though you said you have background refresh turned off take a quick look at : iPhone Settings > General > scroll down Background App refresh >
(Mine is set for Wi-Fi use only). Also see if the WYZE app refresh is turned off on that page.
OUT OF IDEAS

I really appreciate your help.

Background app refresh was off. Yesterday, I upgraded to the latest Wyze app version. Today again, it used a ridiculous amount of background time. I have deleted the app, restarted the iPhone and re-installed the app. I have no idea what is going on here either.
