Lately, I’ve had to recharge my iPhone more frequently. Today, it was from 60% this morning to 0 in just a few hours and I was not using it. The culprit is the Wyze App running in the background. Why is the Wyze App running in the background? It isn’t set up for this. I do not have any geo services enabled, etc.
This should be fixed. This happened after I upgraded to the version of the app just before the current version. I just updated to the latest version today. Has anyone else seen this?
I’ve seen complaints for this problem before but not recently. If this isn’t fixed, I am thinking of just dropping Wyze and deleting the app. This is ridiculous.
The Wyze App is not set to run in the background and yet, the battery app indicates that it is Wyze’s background activity that has used up all of the battery.
I upgraded to the latest Wyze app. I had upgraded recently but there was new update so I downloaded it.
I changed the sensitivity of the movement detection on my two cameras. However, even without many detections, the Wzye app was still using a lot of battery.
I suspect that the Wyze app was is some strange state and even though I closed the app, it was still doing something in the background. I have noticed that yesterday, the front camera did not detect my coming up to the door and yet the day before, it detected me doing the same thing. Nothing was changed between those two days.
One other thing that can cause the app to use battery when is fully closed is Location Services. For some reason when installed it turns them on by default. Make sure it is set to never or While in Use.
This morning my phone’s battery was at 34% all of a sudden. I looked at battery under settings and it stated that the Wyze app again used 97% of the battery due to background activity. I have deleted the Wyze app. I will decide if I was to continue using it and any Wyze products. This is ridiculous. From what I can see on the web, Wyze has had this problem for several years. Yet, they have not addressed it.
The Wyze app was setup to not perform any background activity. Locations services are not required so it was either never or while in use. Again, this is ridiculous.
Not sure what to tell you, I just checked mine and it shows 11% usage, 36min on screen and 2min background usage. Not trying to defend Wyze but I think something is not set properly on your phone.
Is this maybe one of those cases where an in-place update causes problems? What happens if you uninstall the Wyze app, reboot your phone, re-install the Wyze app, reboot your phone again, and then watch for battery usage?
I have deleted the app. It is going to be a pain to set everything back up again. I will follow your instructions and I will ensure that background is disabled and location services is either set to Never or While In Use.
This high background activity disappeared when I recently downloaded the latest version but then it came back again.
I will keep all of you posted. Thank you for all of your suggestions.
Most if not all of your app settings are stored in the cloud. When you reinstall the app and sign in, the app will pull the app settings associated to your account into the app, basically restoring your app.
Please download the Wyze app from the App Store, not an iCloud backup of your apps.
Because of the way your account settings are stored on Wyze servers, as @Seapup noted, you shouldn’t have to…
This is why, for instance, you can install the Wyze app on a new phone or tablet and log in and see your existing devices arranged the way you set them. Uninstalling and re-installing the app is an inconvenience, but I haven’t seen that mentioned in this topic so far, so it seems like something worth trying as part of the troubleshooting. Sometimes in-place updates have caused problems that can be resolved by a fresh install. I don’t use iOS, but I’ve seen this on Android.
You also mentioned that you are using iOS 18.7.2. Have you considered upgrading your phone to iOS26.2? The original issues with it have been ironed out by Apple, it is pretty stable ATM.
@habib Being a software developer myself, I try not to upgrade to the latest version too soon. Are you saying that there WAS a problem with how IOS handles apps in 18.7.2 that is fixed in 26.2?
BTW, as a Canadian living in the US, I love your icon. I have two T-shirts with ‘Canada is NOT for sale’ on them and also a T-shirt with ‘Elbows Up’ on it.
Same here my friend, but it’s been couple of months since iOS26 was introduced. It was a [Mod Edit] show when it was first introduced but Apple quickly made it right with 26.1 and just the other day I upgraded to 26.2. Haven’t had any issue. Don’t get m wrong, I am not trying to convince you into upgrading, just saying that it has been a smooth sailing on my iPhone 11. I haven’t updated my Mac yet as I have a piece of software that doesn’t play very nicely with Tahoe yet.
No, just when iOS26 was introduced some people were having issues with battery management and that was one of the first bugs that Apple fixed with 26.1.
Be careful, don’t walk around in public with those. You don’t want to be picked up by the Gestapo
I wanted to update everyone the progress on this issue.
So I followed the instructions @Crease listed and I have not had the Wyze app use a ridiculous amount of battery in background for at least a week. So thank you @Crease for your suggestion and everyone for their help.
So Battery usage was fine. I didn’t get to upgrade until recently and the version was 26.3. So I upgraded and a day later, the Wyze app was using all of my battery in background mode for 12 hours.
I deleted the app again, rebooted my iPhone and installed the Wyze app again. We will see what happens.
