Maybe I should latch onto another thread but I wanted to start a new one. A few major complaints. I haven’t even explored that far because of one thing that makes this app virtually unusable in my opinion. Happily I installed it on a secondary (older) iPad first, so I can hold off on the upgrade on my major devices.
First, I hate with the white hot passion of 100,000,000 burning suns when apps force me into portrait mode on my iPad. I never never never never never use it in portrait mode. I have a keyboard attached and I use it more like a laptop in virtually every case. Once in a blue moon I’ll disconnect it from the keyboard and hold it in my hand, Even then I use it in portrait mode.
When I first started Wyze app v3.0 it was in portrait mode and several tries of putting it in portrait position and rotating back would undo this. I force quit it and tried again and was successfully, after several attempts, able to get it into landscape mode.
Then I tried pressing on something to dive deeper in and it immediately went to portrait mode again. I nearly threw the iPad across the room. The iPad has sensors. Developers should be able to tell the orientation of the iPad as they start their program. This is NOT an iPhone, it should not prefer portrait over landscape. Nearly everyone I know who has an iPad uses it primarily (or exclusively) in landscape position.
A secondary complaint. Why would I ever want to use your program when in the span of 5 minutes it asked me to go through the idiotic MFA process 3 times. Twice in the app and once on the website. Worse than that it goes to email so I can’t even take advantage of the cool iOS feature to recognize MFA and paste it in automagically.
Sometimes I get the sense that the folks programming this are not familiar with the human factors standards that Apple promulgates. They are there for good reason. When developers follow them it allows users to have a consistent user experience. One complaint I’ve always had with PCs (which I use at work, never at home) is that every developer has their own way of doing things and so program to program I can’t tell how things are going to behave.
Can we roll out a quick fix to keep the orientation of the interface consistent with the orientation of the device. Please!
I have never been this vocal about an app update ever. But with over 30+ cameras and devices I am a Wyze Power user. Needless to say, there is no other word to describe it. I’m sorry Wyze, It Sucks!
Another complaint I have is the mixing of automation shortcuts and cameras in the same favorites tab. There should be separate Tab for shortcuts and only shortcuts.
I deleted v3 from my backup iPad because I found it impossible to use. There is nothing more frustrating to me than to be in the middle of an app and have it change orientation. It won’t stay in one orientation, It keeps switching when different screens are activated. Please, please, please, fix it.
I’m not asking for them to remove portrait mode. I’m asking for them to stop defaulting to it and to stop ignoring the device when it reports its current orientation. The app should honor the orientation the device is reporting. I too want both, but I will rarely use portrait. But I want to use it when I want and not be forced to keep picking up my iPad, putting it in portrait and then to landscape to try to get the darned app to honor the orientation I was in. It’s frustrating in the extreme. And your desire for portrait speaks to the issue in a way.
I’m not sure why, but all of my iPads display in landscape mode with the new app like they used to, which is only for Home (Favorites, Devices, and Automations) and the Events page is also Landscape. the Monitoring tab, Shop tab, and Account Tab are all portrait only.
Keeping this alive and I agree with everything n1mie is saying. Please stop FORCING an orientation on iPad. Let me choose. So many other apps honor whatever the current/locked orientation is. Why is this so difficult? It honestly turns me off to the whole Wyze user experience.
