Word of the Day

Projects to do, when things get done, spending time with friends, and four people I know having birthdays within the same week. Things like that.

Entitlement

I had to have a conversation with my high school age daughter about how lots of adults also struggle with entitlement a lot
while others don’t struggle at all (BECAUSE they just fully give in to it with no attempted inhibition.) :joy: It’s not just “immature kids” who have the problem
some people never grow out of it.

While some of these seem fairly obvious, apparently there is a strong correlation between entitlement and:

  • Low self-worth/self-esteem
    • or narcissism/psychopath/etc
  • Lack of realistic goals and expectations
  • Lack of responsibility
  • Lack of gratitude & courtesy

So, doing the opposite of those significantly reduces issues surrounding entitlement, and significantly improves quality of life and happiness.

Instead of showing or having “respect” I like to use the word “Courtesy” because sometimes “respect” gets confused for “looking up to” and “admiring” someone/something, and that isn’t always necessary or appropriate. There are plenty of people or things I don’t “respect” in that sense, but we can show “courtesy” to everyone
except for @cyberdog_17 of course. I’ll clown on him all day in the watercooler and on Discord just for fun.

Speaking of high schools, Equality vs. Equity often comes up.

Ya know
I KNEW I was gonna be in this when I saw the “Entitlement” heading!!! I am actually probably the best example of the opposite of entitlement tbh. For your correlations
I find I have overly realistic goals and expectations, an incredible amount of responsibility, and an excessive amount oof gratitude and courtesy! LOLOLOLOLOL

Can I borrow your ladder?

Hopefully only in a good-natured joking way that you were okay with. You always know you can DM me if there is ever any doubt (which there shouldn’t be). I would never purposely offend you, and would want to know if anyone ever feels otherwise.

Absolutely playful 'gotcha’s. Absolutely in line.

You did ‘get’ me though. So watch it.

impertinence

Recently read a piece lamenting it. Gave me pause.

Way too convenient I was in the “Entitlement” thread :eyes: :eyes: :eyes: :eyes: :eyes:

Sounds like a guilty conscience
though come to think of it, you did used to try to daily demand that me, @R.Good & @spamoni send you free Wyze stuff nonstop for months in Discord
so if the shoe fits

flummed

Popped into my head this morning. Neologism, I guess. Though, apparently the cap-F root version is claimed by ‘the giant of disposable vapes.’ Which is ok, I guess. Words want to be free.

I flummed it. When something flummoxes you, and you persist in your efforts, you may end up flummed. Or having flummed it.

Flummoxed + bummed, maybe? I donno.

If you’re a little odd you might find the situation flumsical - amused by your own clumsy, human efforts. And where they might land you.

Flum you should be used affectionately and sparingly when a loved one offers unwanted help (seemingly unhelpful help) when you are mid-flum. Give 'em a kiss while you’re saying it.

Finally

Flum Russia with Love. It couldn’t hurt.
