The microphone on this seems useless since this is attached to a window. Wyze should make an accessary bluetooth speaker that can accomplish this
Welcome to the forum @steverose84!
This would be a good item for the Wyze Wishlist Thread. Be sure to tag the Window Cam.
I agree. I mount my v3 cameras inside windows looking out and leave Record Sounds Off. I mostly don’t miss the absent audio that goes with video. It would have been nice to have audio with this 4th of July video.
Surprisingly glass acts as a pretty decent conductor of sound (transducer). Obviously it will not be the same as being open air but if attached to the window as intended it can actually pick sound up.
Not sure how a bluetooth speaker would help? All of the other current cam models are outdoor rated, putting a v4 outside your window will give you better image quality and better sound sensitivity too. That’s how all my cams are set up.
Great point. I wonder why the window cam even has a microphone. It’s not like you’re going to capture the audio of what is being viewed through the window.
By the way, in most states it is illegal to record audio from people talking/conversations unless the people being recorded consent. This is why all of my cameras mounted outdoors (other my birdfeeder cam) have sound recording completely disabled.
If my footage needs to be used for some legal purpose, the last thing I want is someone suing me because the video includes audio. Granted, I could scrub the audio from any video before sharing it. In any case, I rather just stay above board and not have to play games.
With that said, check your local laws before taking my word for it.
I suspect the OP meant a Bluetooth microphone that connects with the camera and could be mounted outdoors.
