Had one come through my yard not long ago too.
Not as common now with the cornfield behind me turned to homes.
The NV light click on the video doorbell pro made it turn and look right at the camera.

For those of us who have dogs, pay attention to the next time they poop. Most of the time their body will be aligned with the north/south axis. Who needs a compass when you have a dog? 
My dogs will circle around a couple of times first. One of them likes to be on an incline when he goes, with his butt pointed uphill. And the other one goes the opposite way. And because the street run north-south, they are either facing east or west.
It was waiting for someone to take it home.
