Why misleading info re 5g compatibility

Why is it so hard to find a 5g compatible camera? Why is it also so damn tricky to even find any that work on 5G? Why does wyze contradict themselves on some web pages saying some of their ccams are 5g compatible, then in other websites they say not to use 5g? Why? For a lot of us, we just want to plug and play. I can’t figure out how to split my router/modem into using both 2.5 and 5g. Also, was able to use 5g for almost a year before the camera just decided not to connect after changing my router password. Crappy cameras, crappy company. You all also hid from your clientele that Wyze had a major security breach with their cameras and strangers accessing other peoples cameras . Super dodgey

If you mean 5ghz wifi (5G is cellular) each product page under “specifications” lists what types of wifi each cam supports. Not many support 5ghz as it goes shorter distances and uses more power. Most IOT devices use 2.4.

2.4ghz is just as “plug and play” as 5ghz. If your camera does not support 5ghz, there is no way you were able use it on 5ghz. I’m guessing you had the same wifi name for both network types and it was connecting to 2.4 (unless you have one of the few that supports 5ghz).

As far as changing your password, of course the camera is not going to reconnect, if it did, that would be a major concern for your network security. Not sure what you’re referring to regarding “major security breach”. The only one I can recall from a year or so ago was some people briefly saw a still frame from a camera that wasn’t theirs (no video, no access to the cam, etc) and that was taken down pretty quickly. Wyze did not hide it and made several statements and posts about it.

I understand you’re here to gripe and vent, but complain about factual, correct things if you’re going to do that, your lack of information or understanding is not anything to do with Wyze.

If you could cite sources and provide links, then that could be helpful. I have also found that Wyze provides unclear or conflicting communication about device features, but that kind of thing can’t be corrected if they don’t know where the problem exists. In the meantime, have you consulted the “Which Wyze devices work with 5 GHz?” article in the Help Center? I haven’t tried verifying that article recently (they last updated it 8 months ago per that page), but that’s where they supposedly list which cameras are capable of using the 5 GHz (as well as the 2.4 GHz) Wi-Fi band.

I’m not sure how this would be possible with Cam OG, which is one of the tags you used for your post. As far as I know, Cam OG has never supported 5 GHz Wi-Fi.

Welcome to the Forum, @cobaltbluebird!

Nope, definitely not. Which is why I suspect maybe OP moved from a shared network name between both bands to separate ones, and just didn’t realize it was using 2.4 before.

What people fail to realize is, unless you have a dedicated 5ghz radio, you don’t want low performance (and likely poor signal) devices on 5ghz. It will drag down the performance of all your 5ghz devices, and those devices probably do actually need the bandwidth that 5ghz provides, unlike these cams.
