Why does the Pan Cam V4 switch from 4K to Auto resolution by itself?

Your wiser than me. I jumped the gun but I did have a reason to do so.

I had no idea the v4 even had an “auto”. Have never seen it come up on my regular v4 and I can’t select it. Are you running beta?

According to the release thread, it appears that’s how it is supposed to be. As long as your network is stable and has bandwidth, Auto and 4K should be one and the same.

Thank you for confirming that. That’s always been my supposition. :+1:

That has been my experience with it. I don’t see the image quality of the live view downgrade until I deliberately cycle the overlay control to 360p.

Yes. I keep forgetting. My whole network is now in beta. Have to get a sticky note and put it on my forehead.

Ha. I take that back. The new Pan v4 is not in beta.

You can enable the little beta icon on your picture here, probably less annoying

That “auto” on the regular v4 must be a beta thing. Maybe it will fix the “sticky 360” issue the v4 has always had if you exit the live view a certain way.

What I have is using production firmware 4.70.0.2082, and I’m using production app 3.7.0.695 (Cam Pan v4 Plugin Version 3.7.0.10). I’m seeing “Auto” on the Live Stream screen whenever I hit that with this camera.

I don’t recall seeing a mention of an “Auto” setting for resolution on the (non-Pan) Cam v4. Where did I miss that?

@ronl4625 mentioned it earlier in the thread. I think we’re getting our pan v4 and regular v4 stuff mixed up in here.

I believe if I’m interpreting correctly, @ronl4625 has beta on regular v4 but release on Panv4 (since there is no beta for it yet). Apparently his regular v4 with beta has an “auto” resolution setting.

I looked but didn’t see it, which is why I asked. :man_shrugging:

Looking again, I’m noticing it now in his second post. Good catch. :face_with_peeking_eye:

Maybe that is a beta thing. I know he mentioned doing a bulk beta firmware update in another fairly recent topic, so maybe his standard Cam v4 and his app are both from beta channels.

Yes

App b696

Cam v4 – beta 4.52.9.4188

Cam Pan v4 - - PR 4.70.0. 2082

Remember I said “rarely”. It has caught my eye a couple of times before the Pan v4 release. I chalked it up to wyze doing something in the background. Then I read the AMA posting and said ah ha. That’s what it is. I just checked my 3 cam v4’s (beta) and it’s no where to be found.

I just love being a test subject without knowing what I’m testing😜.

Well you did sign up for it

I used to be a Microsoft beta tester. Back before they just used the general public for their beta testing without any compensation.

In the context of the AMA content, what you’re seeing with your beta app/firmware for Cam v4 makes more sense:

We are continuously improving the app experience, but we also recognize the importance of maintaining a unified interface across products, and this is something our team is paying more attention to moving forward.

Maybe they’re trying out the “Auto” thing for Cam v4 in beta, like you seem to suggest.

My OP is hijacked by Cam V4 issues which is not what I posted about.

My issue is about the Cam Pan (Pan Cam) V4 app switching from the 4K setting to Auto by itself even though the camera is only 6 feet from the router and is using 5G which is definitely capable of handling 4K resolution communication from the camera. The way the resolution setting behaves now undermines my confidence in the Cam Pan really being a 4K camera that records to Wyze’s cloud storage in 4K when the camera resolution is set to 4K and the WiFi can continuously accommodate 4K. Wyze should fix this so that the resolution setting stays at what it is set at.

That resolution figure you see in the camera’s live view has always been that way since the beginning. That is, you can set the max resolution you want, but actual network capacity determines the rate. This is true for all Wyze cameras, not just for the pan V4.

Your topic lead to a discussion, and during that discussion you can see that “Auto” is the expected behavior, and as long as your network can handle it, will be the exact same thing as “4K”.

Just like when you turn on the spotlight, then exit live view, it turns back off and resumes the automatic mode.

If memory serves correctly that’s what I and a few of the other team found during testing after the V3 Pro was announced publicly and ran into something similar. I can’t remember where we would have put that though here

It’s what makes sense to me, and it seems like others here have already confirmed that the on-screen setting for the Live Stream’s resolution doesn’t have an effect on the recording resolution, so I haven’t felt like it was necessary to do my own testing of that specific feature. Thanks for the additional information.

What I find annoying is that the Pan Cam v4 thumbnail image in the device list, is really low quality, compared to the other v3 and v4. It is like they aren’t using the 4k image for the status image, and instead using the Auto (low res)? It seems funny that the highest capable camera looks the worst on my list. Wyze, the Wi-Fi network can handle the extra bandwidth of grabbing a small cropped 4k image for the device list. This has to be a bug with the Auto.

Do bug like this get picked up or do we have to submit somewhere besides report issue in the app?

Is that the still image that loads in the Favorites tab when you have  Account ➜ App Settings ➜ Autoplay Video Live Streams disabled? I’m using groups (not individual cameras) in Favorites, so this is something that I’m not seeing, but I want to understand what you’re experiencing with better context.

I would recreate the issue, log it (including a screenshot that demonstrates the issue), and then open a Support ticket referencing the Log ID to get it on their radar. You can also post to a relevant Forum topic to try to get more eyes on it and include your Log ID in the post. I’d be inclined to choose Wyze-created posts like those in Wyze News announcing the product itself and/or whatever topic pertains to the specific app version you’re using, particularly because I don’t know if this is a camera (firmware), server, or app issue.
