Which Model is better for starter?

I am looking to purchase a camera specifically for monitoring my very active pets, one of whom is currently injured. I need a camera that can detect their movement and send me notifications when they move, preferably when the injured one moves. Could you recommend a suitable model that meets these requirements?

If you don’t need to be able to move the camera around, and you have an AC outlet nearby, get the v4. Currently $25 on amazon Amazon.com : WYZE Cam v4, 2.5K QHD WiFi Indoor/Outdoor Smart Home Security Camera, Pet/Baby Monitor, Motion Activated Spotlight/Siren, Color Night Vision, 2-Way Audio, Works with Alexa & Google, Free Expert Help : Electronics

If you want a camera you can move around remotely, get the Panv3, currently $30 on amazon Amazon.com : WYZE Cam Pan v3 Indoor/Outdoor IP65 1080P 360° Pan/Tilt/Zoom WiFi Smart Home Security Camera, Motion Tracking for Baby/Pet, Color Night Vision, Works with Alexa&Google Assistant, Free Expert Setup : Electronics

If you want something that fits into a downward facing bulb fixture (like a recessed light or sconce) the bulb cam may be a good choice, but only because it is very easy to install and requires no wires, not because it has anything better than the above cams.

The OG ($20) is a good cam too but for $6 more, the v4 is worth it.

If you want recordings but don’t want to pay a subscription, get a decent endurance SD card to put in it. I like the Samsung Pro Endurance, but the Sandisk High Endurance or Max Endurance are good too. As far as card size, 32GB will store 2-3 days. 64 double that, 128 quadruple that, etc.

Can they track my dogs and recognize a specific one? We have kids at home so i don’t really need to be notified when my kids move around.

I know that it can distinguish dogs and children with artificial intelligence support.

You will need a paid Cam Plus subscription to differentiate between dogs and children. No it cannot differentiate between specific dogs.

This actually might be possible to some degree, but it comes with a cost. The Descriptive Alerts feature available with a Cam Unlimited Pro subscription will actually use AI-enhanced analysis to describe what it sees in a given scene, so if your pets are different colors, then you could see notifications that differentiate between the animals. My experience with that feature is limited, but I have seen it send alerts saying things like this:

  • A black pet is walking in the backyard toward the stairs. The backyard has grass, gravel, and a deck with stairs.
  • A black pet with a red collar is seen walking and then relieving itself in the backyard.

Someone like @ronl4625 or @Earl.Automation might be able to provide more detail, as they’ve commented about the use of that plan much more recently and seem to have a lot of experience exploring its features.

@Mmitch

Not yet. The best I’ve seen is the dogs color and the color of its collar (I’m hoping someone has a Dalmatian). Following is a standard description we get for London. She’s a sweet, 85lb pitty that loves her backyard.The following shot and description is common.

What the AI currently does well is put in some context. She’s wearing a collar, she’s in her backyard, she’s interacting with something on the ground. The AI does show a bit of modesty. She does her business in the same area regularly (makes my job easier). The AI says something like - she’s sitting in the backyard looking at the fence.

This feature is in its infancy. There is no telling where it’s going. I know may of us want more control. I do not need to know 12 times a day what the dog is doing unless it’s out of the ordinary. To Wyzes credit they have included a followup rating page that is more comprehensive than the standard event page. It really focuses on if the description was useful. The following shot is the page that appears if you didn’t like the description.

Overall I’m reasonably pleased with the direction it’s going. The next few months will tell and I’m hoping that it is a “game changer” for Wyze.

Thanks for chiming in and especially for including some visuals! :+1:

I believe you and I promise you that what I wrote above…

…was an actual message I received while testing this feature. :grin:

@Crease

LOL. I believe you. I missed your reference until I was proof reading mine. Actually glad AI tones it down. I have cleanup duty :rofl: every two days and I wouldn’t want AI reminding me constantly.

Where’s the frog @peepeep when snide remarks are appropriate :scream:.

This seems nice. What is this? Do i need to pay for it?

And can i get this feature whatever camera i buy?

Yes you can get it on any cam, and yes you have to pay, it is their highest tier subscription service.

:frog: We are aware of the problem and are working hard to fix it.

And when we fix that problem you can expect a new one in return :zany_face:

I’m on the subscription plan.

You will receive one new problem a month. If we detect that you have solved it in less than thirty days, another will arrive immediately!

:laughing:

The features you desire might make Furbo a better option to explore.
