What can be shared?

I’ve been a Wyze customer for some time and currently a Cam Plus Lite subscriber.
When Wyze pushed to 2 factor authentication, I had my wife create her own Wyze account and shared devices with her, however I don’t think she has access to see everything I do.
For example, she can’t view video recorded on the local SD cards. I also don’t think she gets alerts on our Door cam or can view those clips.
I’m also not sure she can see the clips from other cameras recorded by Cam Plus Lite.

Is there a comprehensive list of what sharing is and is not possible? Failing that, can I disable two-factory auth and just share the same username and password with her?

Yeah, and that’s one of the things many within the community have requested (among other things) in an extensive Wishlist topic:

If there is, then I’m not aware of it. I imagine something like that might be helpful to a lot of users, but I haven’t seen one.

While it violates security best practices on both counts (disabling two-factor authentication [2FA] and sharing credentials), this is apparently what a lot of spouses do in order for each person to have full access to all camera features, for instance. Using the same account might be a problem if you had devices like Scales, but for just cameras this is the way a lot of couples work around the limitations of shared cameras.

You can also just log into your account on your wife’s phone without disabling 2FA and “trust” the device while doing so. As long as she doesn’t log out of the account/app, there shouldn’t be a need to login again, and this should provide some additional security for the account.

The inability to view SD card from a shared user account is ridiculous! Back when we had Zmodo cameras, there was no such restriction. I suspect this is purely a marketing play by Wyze to get users to sign up for the Cloud service. Logging in and out of accounts is not efficient.

I agree that a device owner should be able to designate what features a shared user may access, including microSD card recordings, which is why I encourage people to vote and share comments in the topic I linked. According to one of the cofounders earlier this year, this is supposed to become a higher priority for the app team, though I have no idea when users should expect to see results, nor do I know which specific features within that topic might be addressed.

One thing to keep in mind if you have your wife log in with your account and if you use 2FA. There are two ways to use 2FA. The first is with a text message, and the second is using an authenticator app (such as Google Authenticator). The text message method can be a pain with two people using it because the text message will come to your phone when she tries to log on. Using an authenticator app solves that problem because (at least with Google Authenticator - and I assume others) you can share an authentication to another device running Google Authenticator. That way, your wife will have the same log in capability that you have.

That’s a good point. I use the authenticator in the Sophos Intercept X app, which allows for a backup that can be copied to another device and imported into the app running on that device, so I have my authentication tokens copied locally and available to use on more than just my main phone.
