Every V3 that I used outside died due to moisture entering through the lens. I see that the V4 has an IP65 rating the same as the V3.
Do the V4 cameras have the same issue with water ingress?
I’ve only had my v4 up since December or so, but no issues. It is very similar in design and build to my OGs which are going on 2 years now.
All are outside and directly exposed to the elements.
However you should note that IP65 does not mean waterproof, where possible some protection should be given. That being said I know all of mine get hit with direct rain. Make sure you’re putting drip loops in the power cable, immediately after it exits the back of the cam, as that is one point moisture can get in (then on a hot day it condensates on the lens). Not saying that is the issue with the v3s, obviously it could be sealant around the lens, but I suspect the water is getting in elsewhere, but you only notice it on the lens obviously.
Most all of the Wyze cams from V3 forward all eventually fail from moisture getting in lens if they get direct sun exposure which breaks down the glue/sealant of the lens assembly.
Then once the lens is compromised the moisture starts getting in.
Just happens to usually fail outside of warranty in most cases, isn’t that convenient for Wyze
But when you buy a low cost camera, it’s kind of like buying a Bic Lighter they’re both disposables…
Out of 28 cams 16 have failed so far due to moisture in lens, 12 are still hanging in there. So over a 50% failure rate for me. Once they fail they are replaced by another brand with better build quality, and of course they cost more.
In the end you get what you pay for
I have 3 OGs outside in direct, afternoon sun and which get hit with direct rain, which are 2 years old. Two Panv3s in the same situation, same age. A v4 in the same situation which is around 4 months old now.
None have any hint of any moisture inside.
Which model of cams, and have you followed best practices for IP65 rated device mounting?
