V4 night vision LEDs and general app weirdness

Has anyone else noticed the IR LEDs staying on when their V4 camera is off. When I first turn the camera off the LEDs go off. They stay off as long as the app is open. 3 seconds after closing the app they turn on. If I turn off data or hit airplane mode before closing they stay off. All 5 of my V4 cameras do it. None of my 4 OGs exhibit this behavior.

Another anomaly I have experienced with the v4 is the app saying the camera is offline when they are turned off. The tool bar appears normally so it can be toggled on. However the app must be closed and reopened before the camera works normally. At times it requires force closing and clearing the cache before the camera functions normally. Here again, none of my OGs exhibit this behavior.

v4 Camera firmware version 4.52.9.1134 which is current.
Currently running Android app version 3.4.0.b633. I’ve tried every version since 3.1.0.564 and they all act the same with regards to the v4.

I figured out workarounds but it would be nice if it just worked. Any ideas?

Thanks, JT

Not with my lone v4 sitting on a window sill.

I actually verified this. I have a V4 in a pitch-dark garage, and in view of a cam pan V3. Turning off the V4 (using another phone), the V4’s IR lights didn’t turn off.

With that said, “turning off” a camera from the app simply means turning its livestream off. The camera still needs to stay online and communicate with the back end. And be able to turn itself back to “on” from the app.

Turning off the IR lights could be an oversight or as designed, only Wyze can answer that. But I’m leaning towards the latter, to ensure that the conditions are the same when the camera is turned back “on”.

Thanks for confirming that it’s not just mine doing this.

My OGs and Pan Cam v3s stop the video feed and turn off and leave off the IR LEDs when “OFF” or more accurately in privacy or standby. Only the v4s have their IR LEDs coming back on upon closing the app normally. They do however stop the video feed when “OFF” as they are supposed to. The only network activity when “OFF” is the expected heartbeat every couple of minutes. Manually turning off the night vision lights before turning off the cameras works and is sticky when closing the app.

The v4 is by far the most quirky. Force stopping and clearing the cache have become routine when using them. Out of curiosity, I may have to get an iOS device to test.

Thanks again for confirming my observations!
