I have several V3 Pro cameras, and the problem happens on two different ones that I have tested it on.
I am using Android 14 on a Pixel 6a (fully security updated through April 2024).
I am using Wyze App version V2.50.2(442) with the Hardware Decoder disabled.
Current firmware is on all my Wyze cameras (V3 Pro at 4.58.11.8391 and plugin version at 2.50.0.24).
All I am trying to do is save a video clip from the SDcard.
I can save the video from the cloud recordings of the V3 Pro cameras (I have Cam+ Unlimited).
I am using the dark theme, but it fails on the light theme too.
Procedure for failure:
Open the V3 Pro Camera in live/single view mode (not group view).
Click the SD Card Icon.
Locate the footage I want with the timeline.
Press the record button at the start of action.
Press the stop button after action ends.
I then get this error:
Recording failed with error: Recorded Empty file. Deleted’
I tried it with “Don’t Allow” Photos and videos permission under Settings/Apps, and with “Allow” Photos and Videos Permission. It did NOT work either way so I left it at “Don’t Allow”.
Am I doing something incorrectly?
I think this used to work, but I rarely use it on a V3 Pro.
When I do it on a V3 camera (non-pro), it gives a message:
“saved to album successfully”
Thanks very much!
I use iOS and can record videos from my V3 Pro SD card playback, the videos go my photo/media gallery which is set at limited access. The WYZE app needs some kind of permission to access your media gallery.
I tried it with and without granting access to “Photos and Videos”.
The V3 will save from the SDcard without access to “Photos and Videos”.
The error message is weird though:
Recording failed with error: Recorded Empty file. Deleted
The V3 does it without fail,
On the V3 Pro when I press the “Take Photo” button, it works fine and saves it to the Google Photos Gallery like normal. ALSO:
When I am in live view on the V3 Pro and press RECORD, it will save the live video recorded to the Google Photos Gallery like normal.
It just will not save SDcard footage to the Google Photos Gallery.
I did clear the cache at the Android app level and inside the Wyze app too, which made no difference. It is not a deal killer, but definitely something I would like to be able to do.
I read somewhere that Wyze cams used to have a built-in FTP server which was later removed. That would be a better way to get files from the SDcard, especially if you need a ladder to get the SDcard out.
I have found a work-a-round for my issue with the V3 Pro not recording footage from the SDcard.
Open the Wyze Android App, then click on a V3 Pro camera in single live view.
Press the “SD card” button.
Use the Timeline to scroll close to your event you want to record.
Press somewhere on the live display to display the menu, then press the |< button (skips back)?
Next press “Record” where you want to start.
Next press “STOP” where you want to end.
Message displayed is: “Footage Saved to the device”, and a “View” button to the right.
You can view the footage by clicking the Album button next to record, or in the Google Photos App.
The only permissions I have granted to the Wyze app are:
Location, Microphone, and Nearby Devices (required by scale).
