V3 Pro mangled frames at event recording starts

I have multiple v3 pro cams that now have garbled frames at the start of recorded events. The first 3-5 seconds do not play properly. I get a few frames only and the rest is fine. This is visible on the sd playback and the stored event itself. I have not bothered to download and try and alternative player, but based on my experience, the frame data, more specifically the key frame data is malformed or invalid. So I would expect about the same in any other player.

I noticed this a few days ago. We had two firmware updates very close to each other. General troubleshooting say to clear your app cache and restart your routers, run speed tests and all this other snake oil. The issue is happening on the device itself and has nothing to do with one’s phone, app version, or Internet connectivity.

What I did do was turn off motion tracking - this got turned on a while back and I didn’t bother to disable it. Formatted the SD cards, did a time sync, and manually hard rebooted the cameras. It is still happening.

I was very surprised to not see any posts mentioning this and if it was just one camera, I’d be trying new SD cards or swapping power supplies. But this is isolated to only, and all of my v3 pro cameras, my v3’s are not doing this, and it started after these recent firmware updates.

I can see how most would easily miss a second or two from an event unless you were needing to see exactly what happened in those initial moments. I think most of us who still have alerts on see the animated thumbnail and can determine the legitimacy of the activity. I actually initially noticed the distorted frames in these previews.

Anyway, if I missed the memo, I’ll await the fix. If not, I’ll happily provide whatever is needed to get this looked at.

If it happened after a firmware update and is affecting multiple cams, you should be able to manually downgrade them, however it is a bit of a process involving physically working with each cam.

If you have a lot of that model, might make sense to upgrade firmware on one or two at first and then the rest after a few days or week once you’ve confirmed no issues. I’ve started doing that after a couple update related issues. I don’t think the v3 Pro is as popular of a model as many of the others, so might be why you don’t see others posting the same issue (yet).

I love the v3 pro. Thanks for the info. It’s the bulk of my ‘fleet’ and I’ve been a fan since the original OG. I usually wait a week or two before upgrading firmware, but with the release coming so quickly after the the previous I assumed there was good reason. I’m not about to downgrade over this, these are not critical security devices for me, just nice to have. Guess I’ll wait it out. Haha

My V3 Pro is using the October 2024 firmware without any issues. the device info says up to date.
I know there was a firmware from March that was halted and another from 3 April but the cam says it’s happy with what it has.

Wyze says there were 2 paused v3 pro firmware

Now this.

One of my v3 Pro cameras just started doing the exact same. All events recorded from the 18th on have this problem.
F/W 4.58.13.2958
FWIW I had the same problem with the original v1 floodlight. Tried a replacement with no change. Eventually got the Floodlight v2 and retired the original floodlight(s).
On a whim I reinstalled the v1 floodlight and the original problem persists. Go figure.

Yeah, I wonder if Wyze still has in possession, a V3 pro camera to test their firmware on?

Ditto for the v1 floodlight. Last firmware update for it was Dec. 2021.

V3 Pro with firmware 4.58.13.1321, (9 October 2024) I haven’t received any updates.
