Quick stupid question; probably. I’ve never used/needed to use “Continuous Recording”. I’ve only ever used record events. I was experimenting with continuous recording. It seems to record, because I can see the memory in the sd card being used up. I also understand that the recording will be in 1 minute increments. My question is, are the recording in the “Album”? if so, I don’t see anything there in the app. It says the album is empty. OR, do I HAVE TO remove the sd card from the camera and put it in a computer in order to see the files? If so… that sucks. Some of my cameras are not easily accessible.
Thanks
Mike
I think I figured it out. The camera in question MUST BE LIVE streaming so you can “View Playback”. I guess if you removed the SD Card and put it on a computer you could see it. But at least I can get to it. Thanks
well you figured it out before we could even be of service
But here’s a little tip in case you’re trying to watch a long series of the 1 minute increment videos, if you use certain types of players in an actual computer it’ll play the individual clips one after the other without having to click on each individual one. That might make it a little bit easier for review if you’re pulling the sd card out of the camera. Currently if you’re trying to save something from the SD card to your phone you have to press the record button as you’re viewing the D card from the A and record the whole thing in real time so it really can save you time to pull the SD card for a longer videos. I’m in the same boat with you and having some cameras that are not easily accessible.
You don’t necessarily have to go to the live stream view. If you link from the event to the SD card it just drops you to that spot on the timeline, and you can navigate around from there. Same screen, two different ways of getting to it.
The 1 minute files only come into play if you put it into a computer. From the Wyze app they are always stitched together into a seamless, non stop recording.
Understand where each storage is. “Album” is on your phone. “SD card” is the camera’s storage. “Events”, as used by Wyze, is on its (cloud) servers.
“Continuous recording” only applies to SD card. The only time you’d need to mind 1-minute files is if you’re browsing the SD card from your PC; when viewing SD card clips from your phone, you don’t see those 1-minute files. They look like normal video files.
Appreciate all the insight. I’m going to try using continuous recording for a while. Normally I recorded events only, but that’s a real PITA when trying to view the recorded section from an even. Continuous recording with event notification seems easier to go back and see what really happened. Especially before and after the event itself.
Of course, the app (IOS Apple) is a real pain in the @$$. I go in, turn on a camera, it just sits there and doesn’t show on. But if I close the app, and swipe it out of cache and reopen the app, the cameras are on like they are supposed to be. So I’m assuming when I turn them on, the cameras are turning on but the app is being a Biotch. But that’s a different issue.
Thanks again for explaining the continuous recording.
Mike
This is a long shot - but use your phone and try to format the cam’s SD card. I’ve had a card go bad with I suspect was inter-linked files.
Keep in mind that you don’t have a subscription. You won’t receive notifications for some events, due to the 5-minute cooldown.
I’ve reformatted the cards many times. The issue with the app just sitting there, is definitely the app. If I close the app and reload it, the cameras all show connected fine. As for the SD card, the issue with the app is for ALL the cameras. But, I’ve learned to work around it.
Procedures:
- Open app, turn on camera(s) wanted on
- Close app; swipe up and clear app from cache
- Reopen app and all cameras show they are on.
I can be 99.999999% sure that when I turn the cameras on with the app, the cameras ARE INDEED ON. It’s just the app saying they aren’t on YET. But they really are. As I said, if I close the app, clear it, and reopen immediately (Takes all of about 4 seconds); all is good. The procedures above are now just part of my NORMAL ROUTINE. Nothing is a pain in the @$$ once you get used to it.
