Upcoming shipping price presentation tests - 5/27/21

I also hate it when sellers do that! It’s like that for gas prices too, and every thinks $3.9998 isn’t actually $4.00.

It is so disappointing to find that affected your sales. I guess consumers are not very bright after all. I would much rather know the total price before getting to the final page, only to find that shipping is added. I hope you find a way to better present the information.

Thank you very much for reporting this, Sparq! I’ll get this to the team!

For most big box stores, they use the last 2 cents digits to code what the inventory is priced at, full retail, special discount, close out item, etc.

Interesting technique. (I want to be clear first that I am honestly curious, not disagreeing or being contentious, so please don’t take it that way).

I am curious why they don’t just have the database do that with a table or field that can more accurately track the exact dates it was listed on a particular pricing schema. Then you can still track accurately when there are no sales for that 1 item on the first or last few days on that schema, otherwise the stats get skewed and misrepresented when you want to analyze later how effective it was. Especially if it is a big box store with very large inventory. The table space used would be insignificant and probably ultimately less costly than the added processing requirements of not having it. I’d have thought a big box store would just leverage a database to track these things instead.

I’m sure you are right that several do this, so again I’m not disagreeing, I’m just honestly curious to learn the rationale. Is it to make it easy for the front line employees to recognize what category it is for some reason (why not have the sticker on the price tag be their cue?). They’ve got to have a really good reason for this I just haven’t considered and I’d like to learn.

Excellent catch!
I’d like to point out that it does this on the forums too. @Sparq or anyone else, would you know if the same fix could be applied here too?

Hi there,

Not sure how the forum logic works or from which tags it pulls…but my hunch is that the forum is using OG tags (i.e. the tags used for Facebook sharing). The watch source code has a number of meta tags and within the set of OG tags it references the price (see screenshot).

There’s over 30 mentions of “9.98” in the source code. Again, a fair share of those are likely related to the spare band products but my recommendation would be to go through each of those to identify which refer to the watch and update the numbers there. I would bet if you updated the product schema I pointed out previously and the number in the OG product price tag the forum issue would be solved.

I think you are correct. There have been similar issues in past months where a V3 cam was showing up with the price of the spotlight accessory by accident. It seems like accessories’ prices are somehow mixed up sometimes with the main product price.

I agree with this. I hesitated on ordering the Doorbell when it came out. I since have purchased one at a higher price, not a huge increase, but it still cost more than a preorder. I have since been ordering preorders, if it is something I was considering getting.

Yea, I caught one and forwarded it on as well. I would think it shouldn’t be too complicated. I agree with what you said about using a database and track pricing, you can also provide a Valid from and to date so that wyze could provide promo pricing to different sellers. However, I am not sure how they do it today, so this is my input.

No, I don’t remember. I am sorely disappointed that I was not informed of this. I have purchased all but about 4 of your products. I have been a staunch supporter of your products whilst building my smart home. I have spent over $1200 and paid over $200 in shipping----ALL THROUGH THE APP-WITH NO DISCOUNTS ON SHIPPING. I DO REMEMBER WHEN ALL YOU HAD WAS 2 CAMERAS, WHITE LIGHTS, SMART PLUGS AND SENSOR KIT.

Are there any plans in the works for a new upgraded Pan Cam?

An interesting thread - sales psychology.

My 0.02 cents worth (That’s not 2 cents, but 2/100’s of a cent):

The “.99” (99 cents) pricing convention was explained to me as "The human mind will be situationally blind to the “99"”.

Whether that is because of

  • mental/emotional “tricks”…
    – some study indicated that the round shape of the “9” could mentally be interpreted as a “0” (zero),
    – another study indicated that “pride” won over “saving just a few cents”, with 99 being the most “few cents” before it added up to dollars.

  • poor font choice - in the olden days, in print, the CENTS portion was often
    – portrayed in a smaller font,
    – in a super-script position - out of line from the $$, and often
    – in a lighter font weight ,

All of these resulting in further reducing the implied size of the “99” - reducing it in importance

  • bad eyesight (hey, “back in the day”) – perhaps another factor in the “pride” argument, Glasses were expensive, squinting was free.

The .99 trick also served to decrease the “big” number - dollars - by 1 unit.
$37.99 really WAS less than $38.00
Mentally, it was a DOLLAR less, even if it was only a penny less.

Re: Shipping Not Included…
I see shipping, bundled shipping, discounted shipping, etc. as being problematic, as it leads to inconsistent prices both on and off site.
Or at least the impression of inconsistent prices by people who buy off site.

I buy on Amazon because someone in the house has Amazon Prime.
With Amazon Prime, I don’t pay for shipping.
With Wyze, on site, I pay for shipping.
On Amazon, buying the Cam V3, I don’t pay for shipping - but the price is higher.

Logically, I understand that the difference in price is the amount of the shipping.

But also, logically, Cam V3s shouldn’t cost that much extra, either from economy of scale - ship a box of 120 Cam V3s to the Amazon Distribution point, and let Amazon ship it to me “for free”, or from economy of effort - one person can ship 120 V3s in one box in a lot less time that it takes to ship 120 V3’s individually.

That box of 120 V3s did not cost $719 to ship it to Amazon. That shipping clerk did not take 120 orders, print 120 invoices, grab 120 mailers, stuff 120 envelopes, apply 120 labels, weigh and stamp 120 units for postage, box up and deliver 120 units to the post office.

So, the appearance is, Wyze is prevaricating the price. It’s NOT a $25 camera, it’s a $30 dollar camera.

I’d rather they be up-front on the pricing, rather than playing sales psychology games.

I also recently purchased 3 Wyze Outdoor cameras from Amazon vs. Wyze website for the #1 reason, I could get them the very next day (as a Prime member) vs. paying a lower price plus shipping and waiting on Wyze’s delivery window.

Maybe your sales are down because I cant order product. I’ve been trying to order a double color bulb pack for a few days and the system will never complete the order. It just says:

Wow, just discovered this venue! At approx 11:30am PST, we tried to get 2 more Wyze V3s. Got flustered with the increased prices both on Wyze and on Amazon and across the web. After hesitating, decided to check out. Right after I entered the 3 digit security code for my credit card, I clicked on SUBMIT… then a long delay …then red text pops up: “Out of Stock!”. The V3s went out of stock in around 2.5 hrs after it was available again.

Not reading this thread, I guess I see why as I saw the price change as I was checking out to “include Free shipping”. Wish I knew earlier, would have ordered quicker. Looks like I need to wait until product is back in stock again …2 to 3 more weeks??

See the 3 sellers on the Walmart.com website selling the V3 for just under $600 !!!

These are most likely unauthorized sellers.
A list of authorized sellers can be found here:

Yes, fortunately Walmart.com has a pricing policy that states if a lower price is found anywhere Online, they will match the price. I think the 3 unauthorized shark sellers are preying on unsuspecting shoppers that do not research the prices Online to compare against.

I must admit that these unauthorized sellers have an impressive product descriptions that seem to be accurate and taken directly from all of the Wyze.com presentations and texts which make their
Wyze Cam V3 cameras sound like they are more capable or packed with more features. I think all it takes is one or two purchases for the entire year and they’ve made about a 3,000% profit one each sale!
