Total Fail at Mousing, sort of

Here is my Golden Retriever (mentioned above) chasing a squirrel running on top of my fence.

Look at that good dog intentionally not tearing up your garden, and makes a big effort to go around it even though doggy is really excited and it slows down the chase to move around the dirt. Nice obedient dog there

Smart Dog didn’t want to disturb all the bodies buried in the mass grave. :upside_down_face:

Just corn, zucchini, cucumber and pumpkin skeletons buried there this year. My granddaughter will be 15 months old this Halloween so I am trying to grow pumpkins she can pick.

I have tomatoes and eggplants growing now. The cucumber seeds I planted in a little container are just starting to sprout as well as the Korean Pepper seeds. I gave up digging in this adobe soil four years ago and got some raised bed planter boxes, much easier. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

A guy I used to work with bought a new house in a new subdivision that used to be a farmer’s field. He had issues growing grass due to whatever was in the soil. Finally installed an irrigation system and sod.

Veggies and other things grow great in the clay soil here, it’s just that there is a fine line of when you can dig or till it up. When wet it sticks to everything and is really heavy, when too dry you need a machine to dig it up. I planted in the soil for about 10 years but just got tired of dealing with the challenge which was different every year. The planter boxes work just fine for the small amount of plants I need now =(Old/Lazy)

We used to feed a feral cat. Once in a while we would find entrails on our porch, sort of like ‘here, I saved this for you’.

The last two dogs I had like to bring presents also. They dug holes under the fence so they could go out at night and wander. I the morning I would look out on the deck and see newspapers, shoes, balls, flower pots and a mixture of other treasures like dead possums, squirrels and birds.

We leave a camper, trailer, shipping container and a woodpile on our remote property. We have no neighbors closer than 1/4 mile down the road. He’s got 1/2 a doz cats. One we call OC ( for orange cat ) and Ms Mom ( the black cat ) wander through the “camp” a few times a day. OC is always heading home with a rodent, frog, snake as he passes the camper. I’ve seen him dragging a foot of snake behind him with a good 6 inches of snake hanging out the other side of his mouth. We don’t have a rodent problem. I only had to look back 2 days to find a fresh kill

When I was 1, my parents built a house that turned out to be gopher territory. In the eight years that we lived there, not a day went by without the cat catching a gopher and leaving the remains on the front porch. Snakes, birds, and a few other remains showed up as well.
