Thrasher Visits the Feeder Table

First time I’ve seen one there. They’re usually on the ground or under the bushes.

Yeah, I hadn’t seen as many before this past year. But then, I hadn’t had a setup like I do now.
Haha, we have plenty of vuktures too.

Me too. The v3pro does take better vids than the regular v3. They always look better on a cell phone than on a computer screen though.

Do your thrashers eat the seeds on the table? Thrashers usually forage insects and fallen berries and small nuts on the ground.

No, this was the first time I’d seen one on the table, and he never ate anything. Maybe he was just hanging out and resting?

He probably came for a look-see because other birds were eating.

Maybe put a small bowl of mealworms up there for them. The bowl would have to have steep enough sides to keep them from crawling out.

I sometimes get dried black soldier fly larvae, but its expensive.

Apparently there are a lot more birds around me than I thought.
Fired up Merlin and it identified

Indigo Bunting
Northern Cardinal
American Robin
Tufted Titmouse
Brown Thrasher
Red-winged Blackbird
Blue Jay
Brown-headed Cowbird
House Finch
Carolina Wren

This has to be wrong…Great Blue Heron

Nothing around here like this

Might have been flying over.

You’d be surprised. Maybe there’s a waterway of some kind that makes its way to your area?

Here is my Merlin list:

House Sparrow
American Crow
American Robin
American Goldfinch
Brown-headed Cowbird
Mourning Dove
Blue Jay
Northern Cardinal
Black-capped Chickadee
Cedar Waxwing
House Finch
European Starling
House Wren
White-breasted Nuthatch
Canada Goose
Baltimore Oriole
Downy Woodpecker
Sandhill Crane
Great Horned Owl
Northern Mockingbird

All of these birds are from sound recordings as I am walking my dogs in the morning. I have seen most of these birds too. But a few were a bit of a surprise. Because some were only ID’d once, I suspect the app made a mistake or they were just passing through.

I’ve seen most of those too. Haven’t seen a Waxwing, though. Would like to, as I they’re pretty cool looking. Oh, trying standing behind your feeder, then start walking backward slowly. You can go back and check your footage to see where you come into focus.
