First and foremost, I love the entire wyze line up (I call it an ecosystem). I currently have the wyze watch, the wyze robot vacuum, a wyze truck (heavily modified, Ive driven it miles) the thermostat , power switches, indoor/outdoor plugs, and almost at least one of every model camera they have put out. (Sometimes it’s just for the badge lol).
I trust this company enough keep my family safe via the alarm home monitoring system, and that’s not something I take lightly. Essentially I love wyze.
I can’t speak for everybody, but the main reason is because, I have the capability to automate my entire home by setting rules using devices triggers etc.
I don’t understand how wyze’s bolt lock doesn’t have the capability to do the same? Even when I have it attached to the doorbell pro, I can only unlock it remotely, I can’t even see if it’s locked or not unless I’m at the house.
And the product itself is misleading, it says that it can unlocked from anywhere, and that’s great and all but i can’t lock it unless you’re 10 feet from it. I understand there’s an auto lock feature, but it’s still not what one would expect of it.
I can’t get push notifications. I mean I just feel really disappointed, I mean the doorbell has a bridge that can do these things why cant there be a devicd similar to a bridge or gateway for the lock bolt. And I understand wise lock can do some of these things, but it’s still just a dumb lock on the outside.
I hear ya. I’ve been using a smart lock for more than 10 years. I bought a Kwikset Kevo when they first arrived in 2013. There’s been more than a few improvement in everyone’s smart locks since, but I still am not ready to get of the newer. I don’t know what I want, because I don’t know what they can do. I like the idea of NFC tags and use them elsewhere. I see two categories of smart locks. Really Smart Locks and Smart Dumb locks. I’d encourage you to take a look at Switchbot’s Pro, Its a Smart Dumb lock and has a feature that you can have two battery packs so as to relay charging (new terminology) .
I heard you say you like the Wyze ecosystem. But I don’t think anyone, any single manufacturer solves all our needs or problems. And maybe that’s a good thing. Maybe we should be using more than one manufacturer for our security needs. Anyway, take a look. Might be useful. We all come here for ideas and answers.
I agree that I cannot control the lock except while onsite. I just re-read their description which states “Bluetooth smart lock”. So this leaves us to recognize the Bluetooth is LOCAL ONLY communications.
I have found several other times when it is ‘what they don’t say’ that fails to define limitations. Like with their scales which do not state: “your smartphone must be in the room to record a reading.”
I have several Wyze products which meet my needs for the most part.
My 11 year old Kevo (Kiwkset) also has a Bluetooth Gateway. It is configured with the lock and allows me to manage the lock when away from the house. Also, hard to believe it makes the lock more responsive than simply with Bluetooth. When I got the lock, I didn’t know the gateway would help, so I used it without the gateway for more than a month, before I bought the gateway.
Aqara has a new lock on the market. I think the model is U100, and a slimmed down version called the U50 is $100 less. But they put the U100 on sale for the same price as the U50. (Beats me why.) It needs a hub. But I think we must resign ourselves to any decent lock is going to need a hub to bridge to WiFi so we can manage it remotely. Aqara has a new hub people are raving about, but geez, its $150. So a smart lock can cost $500 by the time we are done.
Yes, I’m really hoping to come out with a new lock that is Wi-Fi and remotely accessible. Really missed the mark on that one. I like the lock but I need this functionality. It is interesting the Bluetooth hub. I might look into that.
I reviewed their Bolt Lock description which states “Unlock from anywhere” which is not accurate. It is Bluetooth only, so you must be within a limited area to control the lock - definitely not anywhere. I cannot unlock the back door bolt lock while in the front of my house.
Yes, DO RETURN. We can’t reward companies that develop expensive IoT products that are not 100% useful to a situation. If I buy something that’s $20 and it doesn’t match the description, I don’t bother to send it back. I eat it and sometimes even throw it away. My fault. But something $150+ that doesn’t live up to his hype, nope, its going back. And in its comments, I will explain why.
Thank you. The “unlock from anywhere” is vague and misleading because you must have another Wyze device to 'unlock…".
I find more and more product descriptions less than fully explain product features and limitations. “unlock from anywhere” should include a footnote or asterisk (*) to be accurate.
I agree, since they are there, I have turned to checking YouTube reviews. It sometimes means sitting through an explanation of stuff, I don’t care about, most is in fact useful. A quick search can reveal multiple reviews.
