He did me a favor, I just sprayed the entire ground area around the water container with flea killing spray yesterday.

No wonder he suddenly got itchy. You sprayed for fleas, when He got close, they got agitated.
My first reaction was going to be something like " hey, not all itches are fleas…" But then he went a little excessive on it 
add to that the fact that you recently sprayed for fleas and it kind of makes sense They’d be agitated and get him to forget why he was headed there in the first place. He just walked off and didn’t even get a drink cuz his buddies didn’t like the watering hole.
Didn’t bother MFP, he was out there for about two hours last night (again), drinking water, staring off into space and grooming himself (Scratching his Fleas). 
So maybe the 
was like the rescue ship? “All aboard!” Perhaps the scratches were passenger counts. 
I looked in the water dish to see if he was trying throw his passengers overboard into the water but there were none there.
