Mr. Stinky should’ve sprayed the entire yard.
Apparently skunks only like to spray when they really feel their life is threatened because it makes them too vulnerable for too long after that. So either he didn’t really feel threatened or he was running on empty.But it sure would’ve been funny if he emptied his tank in your yard. 
Then you would join TomG’s club.
I am happy Mr. Stinky didn’t empty his tank. I don’t want to smell that all day on a 90 degree plus day.
So what you’re saying is, you’d be okay with it if you only smelled it for part of the day or if the temperature was a little cooler?
Because he can come back in the later fall or you can always take a break and go shopping for half the day and come back to it so it’s not ALL day. 
He has been here every night for about a month or so, sometimes with his (Partner). I think MFP hired him as a bouncer for Weeds & Water because MFP has been here at all hours between 8:00 PM and 5:30 AM and I have never seen Stinky and MFP at the diner at the same time, yet!
MFP is a sly one.

He sure didn’t act like he was a bouncer, running away from a puny customer
He was saving his fuel for a more worthy foe. I takes 10-14 days to replenish his tank. If he waste it all on a possum he has no backup plan. It’s a weapon of last resort.
