Stopped Recording Too Soon!

Wyze needs to give us an option for longer recording times. My cameras constantly stop recording when the subjects get a certain distance away, even though they are large enough to clearly be seen. I remember years ago they used to pickup a lot more stuff than they do now. I could understand if the pixel size was tiny but they aren’t, so the cameras should keep recording the movement. If Wyze can’t fix this then maybe they need one camera that can do wide view with a built in zoom to follow the movement. And no, I don’t want to put up two separate cameras!

You can increase the sensitivity to make them pick up further away.

The Pan cams will follow movement.

Several cams support “smart zoom” which is a digital zoom that zooms in on moving objects.

But I’d always recommend having an SD card with continuous recording set, that way if something gets missed with Cam Plus, you’ll have it on the SD card.

The sensitivity has been at 100% and it still stops recording way too early. I’ve tried the Pan cameras but they don’t zoom and are too noisy when they pan around, and I don’t want attention drawn to it. Plus, they would follow leaving blown on the ground and tree limb blowing around. The smart zoom feature isn’t a good option because the picture is too blurry, an optical zoom would be much better. The camera I need to see farther is an outdoor camera, which can easily be stolen, which is why I don’t keep a memory card in it but that may be my only option. But it’s so time consuming now to review all the recordings because the AI mislabeled so many things, having to review an SD card with continuous recording would be even more so.

Have you tried a Wyze wired camera like a v3 or v4 inside a window looking out? Here is a sample v3 video with Detection Sensitivity set at 90. It recorded Cloud video and tagged it as Person of the people walking across my street. I could go to the SD card if I need to see more than what was recorded to the Cloud.

I also view my videos on an iPad Pro 13 inch. I can zoom in but it does get grainy.

There are no windows facing the direction I need the camera at, it’s for my driveway which is on the side of an attached garage. And it had to be placed a bit higher to see over my fence, so I couldn’t even put it inside the garage looking out the garage door windows but the distance would be the same anyway. But looking at your pictures, the distance my cameras need to see is a bit farther. My camera is a V3 with the detection sensitivity set at 100 and it still stops recording too soon. It rarely ever tags a recording of someone walking across the street, only shows it as motion.

I could put a camera closer on top of my fence but it would have to be my battery Cam Pro or I’d have to run an extension cord for the V3 which isn’t practical for the layout. And if I put the battery camera there it will be stolen because there is nothing I can attach it to that is high enough not to be grabbed.

Are you talking about cloud events or µSD card recordings? If µSD card, I gather you are set to event only rather than continuous - correct?

My cams set to 50% pick stuff up like 30 feet away if I don’t restrict it with detection zone. Maybe the v3 is less sensitive.

My Panv3 set to 50 does not follow leaves, it does track bugs when the IR lights are on, I could use an external IR illuminator if it bothered me, but it doesn’t.

Yeah optical zoom would be nice, was hoping the Panv4 would have it. But that’s also $$$. If you want an optical zoom camera, you either use the fixed zoom OG Telephoto or look at other brands.

My V3 used to sense motion much farther away a few years ago, then there was an update that reduced the sensitivity. Now it can’t sense as far, even with the setting at 100%. And yes, I already knew I could use the an OG Telephoto for optical zoom but I don’t want two cameras at that area. I originally was going to put an OG there but decided against it. Maybe one day Wyze will have a camera with high enough resolution so that the digital zoom is really good because I just want one small camera in that area, as it was difficult enough trying to get power there and mounting it so it wasn’t not noticeable.

I held off getting a V4 as I didn’t feel it was a big enough improvement over the V3. They keep making minor changes. Although I did fall for their Battery Cam Pro, the resolution is better but still not a huge improvement and not enough for me to buy more than the one I got.

They do, unfortunately they apply so much compression to the image it negates the high resolution. A 4k or even 1080P image has plenty of detail for a lot of zoom, but it also would take up a lot of space with low compression.

I think the v4 is an improvement over the OG, and the OG was a lot better than the v3 for me, especially at night. But the slightly higher resolution doesn’t help very much since they applied higher compression. Images are a bit sharper, and colors a bit better during the day.
