Speaking through my Wyze cams sounds drunk…

For some reason now when I try to speak through my wyze cams it is super delayed (like 20 seconds) and comes out dragged out/ slurred. I the video feed is live and I can hear the audio messed up. Makes it impossible to speak with the person I’m talking to.

I’ve tried to reset one of the devices but it’s happening on a of my devices both cameras and phones.

I’m wondering if it’s my router but those are also Wyze pro routers…

Anyone experienced this or know of a solution?

As a test, try moving your camera and you device with the Wyze App next to your WiFi router to see if the delay decreases

Yes my Wyze cam audio is terrible too, it has never really been useful as a form of communication.

Slightly better if on local LAN but still unacceptable.

Then on another network you add that delay too…

First let me say I only use Wyze cameras for video recording and never for audio in either direction since all of my cameras are inside looking outward.

It is possible Wyze is using 1960s Cone of Silence audio technology.

Cone of Silence isn’t that far off

The microphone is ridiculously directional, obviously not by design and more by mistake I would guess…

Audio so Good you can hear a leaf drop on a V3 :stuck_out_tongue:

Wyze should sell directional microphones :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Are you sure your video feed is smooth and not delayed? If both are having issues it points to a connectivity problem. I don’t have any v3s so maybe there is some bug right now, but my OGs, Panv3s, and v4 the audio is all within a fraction of a second of the video.

There is about a 1 second delay in audio and video from the camera to my phone. The delay for me speaking back is huge and it’s really sloooooooow. Like the audio has been stretched out.

I’ve always used my Wyze cams to talk to my children in different room. About a month ago it started having this issue.

Ah, I never talk on mine so couldn’t tell you if anything has changed or when. Maybe an app issue, maybe some ipad update (I know there have been some issues with the app and ipads lately).

Just tested one of my OGs using the latest android app and it sounds fine and is like 1/2 second delayed.

It is rare, but I’ve seen cases where a wifi connection has significantly better upload than download (talking to the cam in this case would be considered the cam downloading and your ipad uploading). You’re also now both uploading and downloading at the same time when talking so that puts more stress on the connection as well, if it is borderline it could be putting it over the edge.

If possible, as @StevenA mentioned, temporarily moving the cam and your device close to your router (same room, not right up against it) just to see if that makes any difference or not, would help narrow it down. Also try from a different viewing/speaking device to see if that changes anything.

It sounds like a connection issue as I’ve experienced it myself when for whatever the reason my connection suffers and fluctuates.

It’s the most likely suspect when it comes to stuff like this.

I wish they’d open up a like 2.5 ghz band for the next wifi generation, there is so much old crap on 2.4 and bluetooth is also sharing the spectrum, a fresh start would be nice (and the higher frequencies aren’t terribly useful for cams and other IOT devices that need range). The current 2.4 would be significantly better if everyone was using AX only on it, but it will be years before all the N (and even G) devices go away.

This is caused by reduced bandwidth. Had the same issue with a corporate cell network I managed, spoke to the vender, they opened up bandwidth, and no one sounded drunk anymore.

People don’t realize that just because they have a fast internet or good router that bandwidth and network quality can degrade for a myriad of reasons.
