Sharing Wyze bulb cam

My daughter is away and is having issues getting power to her newly acquired bulb cam. If she shares the camera with me, will I have full control to change whatever settings I need to do in the app?

I believe the only way to have full control would be to sign into the Wyze app using her credentials (assuming she used her own account to add Bulb Cam to the app). I would expect your control as a user with shared access (if she used the normal procedure to share a device to your e-mail/Wyze account) would be pretty limited.

That’s what I figured. I’ll get her sign in credentials and sign in as her in my app. Thanks for the quick reply.

Check the light fixture and make sure it doesn’t have a dusk to dawn sensor or motion sensor, or one of those “dual bright” dimmers built in. If it has any of that stuff, disable it. The bulb cam needs constant power. May not even need to go into the app if it is a power issue.

Good point. Thanks.

UPDATE. The bulb camera went back to Wyze. Spent 2-3 hours trying to get the camera connected but it would not give a live view even after multiple attempts to get it on the app. Four other Wyze cameras working fine but this Wyze bulb cam is a huge fail.

I haven’t had any significant issues with mine, though I know it’s not designed to work with every type of sconce or fixture out there, and I wonder if where you tried it has issues with Wi-Fi coverage (because of the sconce construction or location with respect to your Wi-Fi source) and/or power. At least two Forum users so far have reported issues with their Bulb Cams’ connectivity where the problem turned out to be dusk-to-dawn sensors built into the fixtures where they were trying to use the cameras. Since those fixtures were designed to cut power to the sockets when light is detected (so the lights would be off during the day), the Bulb Cams effectively had no power during daylight hours. Covering any such sensors (or switching to a different sconce type) seems to be the solution in cases like that.

The fixtures do have a setting on them for dusk to dawn or certain hours of the day. There was an “off” button so I turned it off and the bulb did get power, the bulb lit up and I heard “ready to connect.” It just would not add itself to the app after I had entered the wifi information. I believe it was a signal issue but at that point after 3 hours I had enough and packed it up and sent it back.

I dig. Good for you for checkin’ that, and thanks for sharing more information. :+1:

Another thing I’ve had to do a few times (especially with firmware updates on the Accessory Bulbs) is bring the devices indoors and screw them into light fixtures inside, closer to the Wi-Fi signal. I think that’s gotten better over time, and I wonder if it’s similar to the firmware updates they did with Cam Pan v3 that improved its Wi-Fi connectivity. At least with these it’s easy to just temporarily displace a regular light bulb in order to free up a socket and make troubleshooting easy.
