I’ve been with Wyze for years. Minus their Alexa Compatibility glitches (which my experience with Alexa is more glitchy than just with Wyze) I’ve been very satisfied. Every security cam platform I’ve ever had has had glitches; Wyze probably the least and the easiest to work around. I’ve tried these new bulb cams per word of mouth and love them minus one glitch:
Automation doesn’t work right with the lights. All this means is that I have to teach my 81 year old mother how to turn the lights off and on from the camera view once a week (because Alexa sure isn’t going to help); but it would be nice if I could automate it for her like I have so much other Wyze things.
What kind of automation are you attempting/expecting? If you can provide some more detail about that, then that additional information might help others within the community to understand your goal and what you’ve tried so far.
Could be, like maybe a voice command to Alexa or something, but since @buhdog specifically mentioned “Automation” and “automate” I was thinking more of a trigger or schedule situation, and there are different ways to control the lights with Bulb Cam (and Accessory Bulb) within Bulb Cam’s settings and within Wyze Automations, so I’m trying to get a clearer explanation of the problem and goal before attempting to offer solutions.
Hi am new to this, so please go easy on the newbie…. Does anyone have an answer to the original question? I am having the same trouble. I can’t make an Alexa routine to control just the light bulb on the bulb camera. When I add the wyze bulb camera to the Alexa device list, it adds it as a camera and I can’t change the device type to light. Everytime I try to make a routine for the light bulb the only option is On, No Off. I tried creating shortcuts in the wyze app for Alexa to import as scenes but Alexa doesn’t see those scenes. Is there instructions or a video for setting this up properly?
I requested clarification on the original question but haven’t yet received that, so I’m still not sure what kind of a response to provide. My best guess so far is that what’s being requested isn’t currently possible with the third-party integration and the way I understand Bulb Cam (and, by extension, Accessory Bulb) is designed to work.
That’s my understanding of how Wyze designed the product and how it shows up in third-party integrations, including Google Home. It’s primarily supposed to be a camera device, so that’s how it’s exposed to these other platforms.
Another way to think of it is like Wyze Cams with spotlights, like Cam v4 or Cam OG. When I open one of those in the Alexa app, I can’t use that app or Alexa routines to control the spotlight. (I don’t own any of the Wyze Cam Floodlights, so I can’t speak to what features are exposed to third parties there.)
I do see what you mean about being able to turn Bulb Cam on as an action in an Alexa routine but not turn it off. I don’t know if that’s an Alexa limitation or an oversight regarding what Wyze allows a third party to do with that device. I can see how that can be annoying, and I wonder if a better integration (i.e., exposing the ability to turn it off) would be a good Wishlist request.
This seems like you might be talking about a different product, because Bulb Cam and Accessory Bulb don’t support “scenes”. There is no setting for that even within the Wyze app, so I’m not quite sure what you mean here. I have a “Scenes” tab with other Wyze lighting products, like Bulb Color, but I’m not sure what you’re trying to do when you mention this in the Bulb Cam context.
Again, this depends on what you’re trying to accomplish. If you want to just do something like use your voice to tell an Echo to turn Bulb Cam’s light on and off and you don’t want to wait and see if Wyze and Amazon work out a better integration (I have no idea if any of this would be covered by the newly-released Matter standards for camera devices.), then the easiest route is probably going to be using something like a Wyze Bulb or Wyze Plug to act as a logical switch and serve as an intermediary between Wyze and Amazon (or Google Home, for that matter). You can use the Plug to trigger a Wyze Automation and control the Plug’s on/off state (and, thus, the Bulb Cam’s lights’ state) with Alexa.
If you need detailed instructions on that work-around, you can search the Forum for examples or post back here with a description of what you want to do and I can try to write that out for you. (I’m away from home at the moment, so I’m not in the best position to test.)
Sorry yall (I’m an ole country boy who went ro college). I have had alot go on in the past month. I am just getting around after knee surgery and last night that light cam was bothering me so I turned it off. When I got up this morning I said’ ya know what, I never deleted the automation ON THE HOME PAGE OF THE APP.
So, I tried it. It worked. Thanks wyze for working on it.
I tried Alexa and one of the other bulb cams and, she can turn the light off and on. So great job there too.
