Is there any way to control the ambient light of the Bulb Cam from Alexa?
I don’t believe so, no. At least I’m not currently seeing any way to do this. What is it you would hope to accomplish with Alexa and Bulb Cam?
Welcome to the Forum, @domenico!
Thank you @Crease, the idea is to be able to turn on and off the lights of the Bulb Cam via Alexa. Right now I have two automation shortcuts that allow me to do it from inside the Wyze app but my wife doesn’t like that…
Thanks for providing the additional context. That’s helpful, and it also helps to know that you’re familiar with Automations!
If you have a spare Wyze Plug or a Plug Outdoor with an unused outlet, then this should be fairly straightforward, because you can use one of those devices as a logical switch in Device & Service Trigger Automations as a bridge from/work-around for the Alexa integration. The Plug wouldn’t be used for controlling power to anything; it would just need to be plugged into AC and connected to Wi-Fi. You’d create one Automation so that when the Plug turns on your Bulb Cam’s “Turn on the lights” Action fires, and you’d create a second Automation for turning the Bulb Cam’s lights off when the Plug turns off. Then when your wife tells Alexa to “turn on the dingus” (or whatever name you give the Plug in Alexa) the Bulb Cam’s lights turn on.
If you don’t have a spare Plug, then potentially you could try using other Wyze devices as triggers, but I think a Plug is generally the easiest solution, and I like to keep some on hand as work-arounds when a given integration doesn’t support all the features I want to use (like with Google Home). (In the past I’ve seen them on clearance at Home Depot if you have one of those local, and that’s how I picked up my last two Plug Outdoors at a good price.) The key is that it has to be another Wyze device acting as the trigger, because it needs to be something that the Wyze app can see in order to make the Automation execute.
I hope that makes sense. If you have a Plug and want to try it but need help with the Automations, then please let me know.
That’s a great idea, I’ll give it a shot. Thank you so much for the detailed explanation!
You’re welcome! I hope that all makes sense and gets you where you want to be with this. If you need more detailed instructions, then feel free to reach out.
I don’t know what other Wyze devices you have, but one of the Bulb products should work as an option (alternative to Plug) if you have something like that you want to set up as kind of an ad hoc lighting group. A Bulb turning on or off could function as a trigger in the same way as a Plug. I’ve been using Bulb Colors as Automation triggers (just the “Turns on” or “Turns off” action) recently while testing something else, and that’s worked really well. Depending on where your Bulb Cam is placed and what other lighting you want in an adjacent area, that might be an even better solution than a Plug.
