Shared User SD cards access

Why can’t our shared users view SD card stored footage?

Because they want you to subscribe to CamPlus?
Just my guess with the Wyze eco-system, hobble the camera without a subscription

If you do a forum search (or look at the right while posting) you’ll see this has been discussed several times. You can add your vote to the existing wishlist request.

A subscription does not give shared users access to SD card footage.

Sure 6 years ago. They still haven’t fixed it. I don’t care how many times it’s been asked, they haven’t answered.

That’s what I would think, too, but I’ll sell this camera system and get another before I do that.

“Fix” implies that something is broken. It is a feature that never existed. Guest accounts are severely lacking in features and functionality, but best I can tell there is no priority on doing anything with them.

There are potential privacy concerns and lots of people do not want guests to have access to anything more than the live stream. Wyze could add a permissions setting where you can choose, but like I said, guest accounts seems to be something quick just to satisfy that need and it hasn’t really been touched since.

Broken means it doesn’t work the way I want it to. They could easily fix this but after 6+ years of posts about it, it’s obvious they don’t want to.

There must be a lot of broken things in your life?

Welcome to the Forum, @user121!

This is the most recent answer I’ve seen:

The Wishlist topic that @dave27 alluded to includes a more fleshed-out explanation:

You can Vote in that topic above the initial post, and share your ideas and use cases in the comments.

According to one of the founders earlier this year, this is supposed to get some attention:

There are a lot of asks in that particular Wishlist topic, though, and microSD recording access for shared users is only one of them, so I have no idea what their priorities might be when it comes to actually tackling the issue of various permissions.

Well that’s just sad then, especially if it’s been requested for years.

I haven’t shared any cams so didn’t know that about the SD, the wife uses same sign-in…

Most people trying to do this don’t care about that, so just enable it as an option. I don’t need to vote in a forum for some founder to sit on his hands for another 6 years to come up with a simple fix. Let the users make the security decisions for themselves.

That’s a work around except you can’t do that using log in with Google. Because sharing the account was the first thing I tried to do.

This is a user to user forum. Nobody here can rewrite the app for you.

If you want to make the security decision for yourself, share your Wyze login with the other users, no more security restrictions. If you chose to use login with google, then you’ll need to share your Google account credentials with those users, or create a wyze account and move your cams over which is the better way to go.

Wyze REALLY doesn’t design the cameras they sell

They buy other manufacturers cameras as OEM units then develop their version of firmware & software for it and re-brand it as Wyze.

That’s where the issues arise as some things are harder to do when you are not 100% in control of full product design and manufacturing.

That’s why the app is a mess with constant updates, they buy multiple “smart” products from OEM’s then TRY to make them all work happily together :joy::rofl::joy:

I liked Wyze when they started out as a “Camera” company but after the expansion into “Smart Junk” market not so much anymore :face_with_diagonal_mouth:

All,

Please make sure this remains on topic and does not degrade. Please ensure the Community Guidelines are adhered to.

As @dave27 indicated, this a community Forum, Wyze may peruse these posts for insight and info. However, we cannot make any adjustments to the code nor can something be simply turned on. That is why @Crease provided the link to the Wish list location.

Even though it has been about 6 years or so, your vote does help out immensely.

Yep, VOTE

It only took nearly 1700 votes and almost 5 years for Dark Mode :winking_face_with_tongue:

LoL, and Even like our government your vote may or may not mean anything :joy::winking_face_with_tongue:

As Wyze still has final say on whether they’ll do it

The current (and even last few generations of cams) are not just pre-made white label units. Yes, every manufacturer buys an SOC and puts it in their own packaging, especially when it comes to any sort of camera. But that doesn’t mean it is an off the shelf product with the Wyze sticker on it. If that was the case, the pan cams would look like those bubbles that ever other no-name brand sells. And yes, they, like everyone else, has them assembled by a 3rd party. A 3rd party also is probably heavily involved in the firmware and software development (if it isn’t fully outsourced). This is the way of the world when it comes to inexpensive electronics.

Even your beloved brand is not hiring people to solder image sensors onto PCBs, integrate them with a CPU and Wifi chip, and design their own lens assemblies.
