My husband shares the cameras with me so I cannot access the SD card. The other day I tried to view an event and there was an error with the cloud so it allowed me to access the SD card in that case. Since it’s obviously possible to share SD access why the hell don’t they turn it on?
Shared users can’t access the SD card (unless you’re sharing a login, in which case you aren’t a “shared user” as wyze considers it). Maybe some sort of glitch where it appeared you were watching the SD card?
Either that or they’ve added this new feature and not told anyone.
I’m a shared user with my own login. My husband, who is not tech savvy AT ALL, decides he’d be the one to activate the cameras after installing them. I normally get the message about not accessing SD card as a shared user. I got an error message while trying to view an event from days prior and it said something like ‘error… switching to SD card’. I was able to see continuous recording.
Very strange. I haven’t tested out guest accounts in a while, maybe they’re working on adding that feature.
I see posts as far back as 2018 asking for this feature and now I know for sure it is possible. Wyze may appear to be affordable but the hustle is limiting access and making people have to pay for it. If they haven’t enabled shared SD card access by now they’re not going to.
I don’t think it is any sort of hustle, honestly it is just development cost probably. The guest accounts are pretty basic and limited.
But the fact that it is letting you do it could be a sign that it is coming, previously there was no way for you to view the SD card no matter what.
I think one of the limiting factors is that they don’t want to add it to guest accounts without giving the owner the option to block it. So maybe you’ve stumbled on a bug that is allowing you to see it when there is no cloud recording, and really it shouldn’t be working until they can add that option for the owner.
This is all just conjecture though, I honestly do not know if they’re adding it or not, just would seem odd to add the capability but then only have it work for when a cloud recording isn’t available.
I set up my Wyze v3 cameras 3.5 years ago. I gave my wife my Wyze User Name and Password so she logs in just as I do. Since I am more tech savvy than my wife, I ask her not to update camera firmware or change camera settings.
She just wants to view Cloud videos and jump to the SD cards. This has worked for me for the last 3.5 years.
It just happened again and this time I got a screen capture. Again, I’m a shared user and normally cannot access the SD card.
Interesting. Does it allow you to view only the event or can you go anywhere on the timeline?
I can go anywhere on the timeline. Even several days in the past.
