Please make all accounts connect to cam can access sdcard.
Can you more clearly clarify or restate your wish or request?
Welcome to the forum.
As @fmills1d mentioned, please provide more clarity.
There is already a wishlist topic on this (along with other guest account features), feel free to go vote for it.
Unfortunately the only current ways for a guest to view recordings is to share your login with them, or subscribe to cam plus/cam unlimited (they won’t be able to see the SD card but they can see the cloud clips).
@dave27 - I think we both know that multiple accounts viewing sdcard video from a connected shared cam is a “somewhat tall order and probably logistical nightware” for Wyze. There’s a modest level of IT system integration needed that I doubt Wyze will ever be in a position to implement. I could be wrong, but I doubt it.
Yeah my comment about “feel free to vote on it” was a bit tongue in cheek, but can’t hurt.
In reality it shouldn’t be that hard to implement, but guest accounts do not seem to be anywhere on their radar, as even stuff like being able to have different notifications has been ignored.
I won’t be holding my breath. I suppose the way I see it, someone you don’t trust to share the login isn’t someone I’d trust to view footage from my cams. In fact I wish the guest accounts were more restricted, they can create automations to change settings etc which makes no sense.
I remember someone from Wyze posted here about this topic and the impression I got was they are trying to limit access to the SD card. They didn’t specifically mention the reason but I assumed that the SD card is a relatively slow device and that might pose a problem with multiple people accessing it at the same time.
I wonder if two people can access a micro SD card at the same time? When writing or not. I would think so in normal situations but in a camera?
In theory, yes, it can, by using a form of an OS-wide software lock. But I’m sure Wyze did some tests on this and probably came out with something not very favorable.
I just tested and I can watch the same event on both my phones from the same SD card at the same time. With continuous recording going.
If it is a privacy thing, then just add a toggle to decide whether to allow that shared user to see it or not. Considering they can watch cloud clips with Cam Plus as well as live view, I don’t think they did it for privacy…
Is that 2 phones, 1 with a sdcard, linked or not linked under the same or different cell accounts. Not quite on the same level as camera sdcard access. The cell to cell access seems much more capable with being controlled by the pairing of the phones in the cell network with the mac addresseses having equal access. Or the phone without the sdcard is set to mirror the phone with the sdcard. Sort of a simply stated working theory.
Not sure I follow. I’m using the wyze app on two different phones to view the SD card footage in one cam over wifi at the same time, just like would be done if two different people were viewing it. Viewed the exact same event and hit play at the same time.
Both phones are using the same Wyze account.
Thanks, that’s understandable. Technically, you’re accessing the same cam and it’s sdcard from 2 phones with the same account. No different than viewing the sdcard independently from each phone. Nothing magical. I got the impression the conversation started with a different objective.
The original question was for guest accounts to have SD card access. In the thread it was mentioned it could be a limitation of the hardware, I was just testing to confirm if that was the case or not, and it appears not, it is possible for two devices to watch the same SD card video at the same time.
