Shared cameras not displaying

I recently installed two cameras (OGs), one for me and one for a trustworthy neighbor. They are in our respective back yards and face each other.

We agreed to share our cameras with each other so we both will have two views of our adjacent yards.

Once they were both up and running on our respective devices, we sent each other a Share notification. We both accepted.

But neither of us can view the others camera. We share other cameras with each other with no issues.

Am I missing something? We deleted and Shared multiple times. Forced stop the app… even rebooted devices.

Both device’s apps show the Share requests have been accepted at both ends.

Are you able to view your own cam when not on your wifi (and same for the neighbor and their cam)?

Yes. I can turn off the wifi on my device and still view my camera using cell service. And control it as well (light, audio etc).

Odd. I haven’t used the share feature in quite a while, but it did originally work with my OGs. Maybe there is some issue currently.

So you can see the camera but not watch the live stream? Does it attempt to load it at all?

There is nothing visible for the shared camera. Its like its not shared at all. Or even exists.

Odd. So the share notification comes up in the wyze app itself, not via email right? I’m curious if you might have ended up with two accounts (one via email address and one via “login with google” or facebook or whatever). That’s happens to some from time to time and causes confusion.

Maybe you accepted from an email and added it to a different account than you’re actually using in the app?

Just guesswork at this point.

Of course there’s two accounts. If we used the same account there would be no need to share.

Sharing is accepted through the app, not via email.

No I mean one or both of you could have ended up with more than one account each, sometimes people create an account on wyze.com but log into the app with google not realizing it a different account when you do that.

Like I said I haven’t tested the sharing feature in a while but when I did, if an account already existed under that email, you got a notification right in the app to accept it (in addition to the email asking you to sign up for an account to share the cam, which may be where the confusion comes from sometimes).

If either of us were usung a different account, we’d never get the Share request. So the emails used to share the cameras are correct.

You would still get the share request via email. But you would not receive it in the app if you’re logged in using a different account (even if it seems to be the same account). For example logging in as you@gmail.com and a password you created for wyze is different from using “login with google” and using that same you@gmail.com (but in that case you’d use your google password).

That may not be the case, just the only thing I can think of as it has happened to others.

Maybe there is some bug with sharing right now and all of this is moot, it’s just all I can think of that would make it not show up at all.

I forgot I still have my 2nd Wyze account I used for testing guest accounts. Logged into that account using the latest 3.x app.

From my other phone (logged in with my main account, I shared an OG to that test account. I instantly got an app notification on the test account from the Wyze app saying a cam was shared with me and tapped “accept”.

I did NOT get an email. I believe if you get an email, that means you do not have a wyze account under that email.

I’m watching the live stream in the guest account right now.

Emails are 100% verified as correct. Shares were accepted in the apps, not in an email.

Both apps show correct emails as both sent and received. In order for emails to be the issue, -both of us- would have to be using another account.

And the other cameras we share are listed in the apps as well.

So incorrect emails or accounts are not the issue.

OK. Don’t know what to tell you then, as soon as I accepted the cam it is there. Confirm you are not looking at the “favorites” tab but the “devices” tab right?

It won’t show under favorites unless you add it as a favorite.

THAT is what I was missing!

Dont ever get old… it sucks.

Too late.

Now you get to find that the guest accounts are fairly limited in what they can do, but if all you want to do is see live stream and still frames of events, you can do that. Or if you subscribe to cam plus, you can see the online clips (but not SD card).

I would recommend the two of you agree never to set any “automations” for each others cameras. It causes issues and confusion as they can control your camera in a way, but you can’t see it and won’t know why things are happening.

The only other thing that is a common complaint is you are stuck with whatever notification settings the other person sets, you can’t change them (other than turning notifications totally off on your phone which will impact your cam too). However there are 3rd party “notification manager” apps that can resolve this (or at least make it much better).
