My Camera was HiJack by someone and I No longer have it on my account. I have always been a huge WYZE supporter but this recent event has me question whether or not I can trust them to protect me as a consumer. I was not aware that there isn’t any safety protocols in place for if someone was to gain access to your camera while you were away. A person was able to gain physical access to my camera and strip it completely away from me and my Account without so much as an authorization, pin, password, etc. They simple reset the camera and took full control of my camera. I didn’t receive a notification or alert to tell me that my camera was removed from my account or that someone was attempting to alter my camera without permission or consent. This makes me question the reliability of the WYZE and its Camera systems. Most devices now have serial numbers and /or protection to prevent unauthorized use. Why is this not the case with these cameras. Please correct this issue.
They attempted to add this protection to the outdoor cams and resulted in many people bricking their cams, even to this day.
In reality it should follow the blink model of not allowing it to be used on a new account until it is released from an old one, but I can imagine that would result in a lot of people getting locked out also.
Even worse, that person associating the cam to their account locks you out of all cloud recordings that were recorded prior to that so you can’t even capture evidence of them doing it. But on a good note, they can’t get access to your prior recordings (other than the SD card).
You can’t totally blame wyze for the fact that your cameras were not physically protected and someone gained access to them. Even $1 million dollar enterprise Cisco routers allow that to happen. That’s why they’re secured and protected from physical access.
Welcome to the Forum, @ainitlovely!
That really sucks about losing access to your camera. Reading your post, I understand that it’s no longer associated with your account, and you seem to indicate that someone else gained the ability (through physical access) to access it remotely, but I’m not reading that it was actually stolen, so I wonder if you’ve been able to re-establish your own access and ownership of the camera and its control. That bit’s unclear to me, based on what you’ve written.
I think that much also reinforces @dave27’s point:
So if you’ve been able to regain control of the camera, then I hope you’ve also taken other measures to protect it (if that’s possible given whatever its location and use might be). I’m unsure about the status of this, though:
That was discussed at great length last summer after a topic about a camera that was actually stolen prompted a lot of comments to a fix-it-friday topic that eventually led to this from Wyze:
I don’t recall ever reading a definitive date about that, so I can’t speak to whether or not cloud footage is currently accessible to an account owner if that person’s camera is physically stolen and connected to another account.
Please be aware that this is primarily a user-to-user support community and that Wyze does not actively monitor all topics. Having said that, my understanding is that they do try to track some categories, including the Wishlist, which includes this request that seems relevant:
Please feel free to visit that topic, hit the Vote button above the initial post, and share your ideas and use cases in the comments.
Here is another thread with lots of discussion on this topic.
Yeah, I linked to that one in my post.
I see that now above the Fix It Friday link. I guess great minds think alike.
