SD Card recording while offline

Did Wyze remove the feature for these cameras to record to SD Card while offline?

The only support i find now states that for this feature to work you must now

"To record to a microSD card while offline:

Insert a MicroSD card into your Wyze Cam.
A chime will sound when connected.
Set up a Timelapse video (aka, schedule a recording).
In the Wyze app, tap on your Wyze Cam and load the live stream.
Tap Timelapse, and set the date and time
Schedule a recording (aka, a Timelapse video).
In the Wyze app, tap on your Wyze Cam and load the live stream.
Tap Timelapse, or More > Timelapse.
Add the Start and End times, and the Interval (length of the recording).
Wait for your scheduled recording time, ensuring your camera is connected to power.
If you lose connection to Wi-Fi, your video will still record.

Additional Notes

You cannot record offline without first being online, to set up the scheduled recording.
Recording offline means either losing your internet connection unintentionally, or purposely disconnecting from Wi-Fi while a recording is scheduled.
Your Wyze Cam must remain connected to power to record to a microSD card.

WTF.

I had a DNS issue, So my router went “offline” at one of my locations. Since my external ping was still stating it was “up” i didn’t notice this issue until 10 days after. (Even the cameras stated they were online until i tried to click on them then got failed to connect.)
Now i have to review some footage of something that happened and my cameras don’t have any footage on the SD card from before 10 a.m. this morning when i fixed my issue and reset my internet equipment.

Is this going to be a thing that wyze keeps doing? Removing features? Between all the security vulns and feature removals forcing subs… what else is there to do but sell the stock and find something else.

My V3 and V4 cameras still keep recording to the SD if the wifi connection goes down, I know they will record for many hours but I don’t know about 10 days and have no desire to find out.

lol, AWW cmon man! Test it for me! xD

Yeah mine used to until January. and now none of the 40+ cameras i have do it. Range of them, v3’s OG’s, v2’s. All of them suffer the same thing. Even the doorbells.

If you dig around the forums you will see similar post. On some cams it was found that in fact the videos were recorded but in different folders, so you can not use playback. Maybe you can take a card out of one of the cams and view it on a PC or device with a card reader. You might find recordings in a different folder? Did you check the SD to see how much data was used and how much space was still available? 10 days is at least a 128GB card on continuous recording.

Supposedly the OGs will record but they put it in a generic dated folder since it can’t update its time (they reboot every 30 mins to try and regain connection and the time is lost when they do that). Not sure if something similar may happen with the v3s, but take out the SD card and check in a PC to see if there may be footage there in a strange folder.

If you have that many cameras, have you considered a router that allows 5G cellular automatic backup? Even if just to allow the cams to stay online and update their time.

There are a few ways to do it, obviously a 5G dongle but your provider will probably charge for that. But many have set it up to fool the provider into thinking they’re using hotspot on their phone (which many include a certain amount for free).

I thing WYZE should address this ASAP.

I had an Internet outage for 3 days, and I thought that my Cam pan v3 would still record to the sd card.

I encourage Wyze engineers to find a solution, cameras should still record while offiline. I mean, the filesystem is sitting right there in the camera.

Otherwise it means that a thief only has to cut our optical fiber in order to happily break in our home.

Kind regards
