A few posts in another topic made me think of Colossus: The Forbin Project (1970). That’s one I recall first seeing on TV after it was edited with the pan and scan method to fit the 4:3 aspect ratio, and it gave me the impression that this type of panning was a stylistic filmmaking technique in science fiction flicks from that era. It’s been a while since I’ve taken the time to watch that one. On a hard drive somewhere I might still have sound files that I recorded from that movie years ago so I could use them for Windows events.
