I agree with @shawn1 - absolutely genius! I had the same issue and after struggling for 5 minutes with pliers, I searched and found this thread. I tried rotating the battery, but that didn’t help in my case. 30 seconds waiting for super glue to dry and I was able to pull the battery out by the fabric strip with relative ease. The old battery definitely was swollen. They did last about a year. Thank you @sircod !
Figured it out! Use a pocket knife, use your left thumb and right hand with knife.
Stick pocket knife in red dot and use left thumb to push out to the top. Slowly!! Took less than 3 min.
Same problem. But we’re out of warranty so even though this is the first time attempting to change the original batteries, we’re SOL.
Which means this is really just a $25 disposable scale. I’m not mad about the money. I’m mad about the waste. I wish they’d at least take it back to recycle. Instead, this piece of trash will just end up in a landfill next to the two Wyze locks we’ve had to throw out.
I’m beginning to think “Design Flaw” is a common problem with Wyze. Their plugs work well, their cameras are OK, but everything else is junk. Everything they sell might be cheap, but the environmental consequences of just generating more and more trash with products that have a minuscule lifespan are a problem. Never buying another Wyze product again, not even just out of curiosity.
Same problem. 3rd battery stuck. First time trying to change batteries. I’ll try again tonight and then throw it away and never order another Wyze product again.
Design should have been a full access panel. Stupid.
One more person with the stuck battery. I appreciated all the pictures in this thread. I tried needle-nose pliers. Ha. I even found a tool in my husband’s toolbox that looks like a dental tool with a very sharp hook and thought for sure I’d found a solution, but I couldn’t stick it into the battery deep enough to stay; it just slid off while deeply scoring the battery. That end of the battery now resembles a battle zone. I saw the recommendation to rotate the battery, but it was too stuck to even budge with any tool I had. The superglue idea was great so I tried that next, but stupidly tried to put the superglue on the battery, not the fabric. I have now superglued that battery into my wyze scale permanently. I’m very sad that I have ruined my scale. And quite annoyed that wyze designed a scale without full access to all batteries.
I’m afraid to buy another one, but will call customer service when they open today with my sad tale of Scale Battery Woe. Thanks for all the great ideas and pictures. It feels good to know it’s not just me with this silly issue.
Had same issue, called customer service and they sent the new replacement scale and told me to keep the old one and recycle which was great. I got the black one instead of white original purchase, not a huge issue but the first thing I did was removed the installed battery and used duracell batteries instead so it wont get stuck again, hopefully.
It took less than two hours between the time I contacted Wyze (through the chat, as it was prior to phone line hours) and when I had a new order for my free replacement. That’s really great customer service. Amazing, I placed the other two batteries back in next to the battered stuck one, and though I see the low batter symbol, the scale still works. I hope the batteries hold up until the new one arrives.
Great tip about replacing batteries with Duracell as soon as my replacement arrives!
Update: my new scale arrived already! Less than 36 hours after I was struggling to remove the stuck battery, Wyze customer service has replaced my old scale with a brand-new, up-and-running scale. THANK YOU, WYZE
Same problem here with the battery stuck inside. I was able to get it out with a pocket knife pushed into the battery skin on an angle with one hand, and tapping the pocket knife with my other hand. Tapping sounds lighter than it is, it took a little work. But it came out!
Exactly the same problem. This is clearly a design flaw. Even if the problem is that they ship with low-quality batteries that swell, there should be another mm clearance in the battery compartment.
The fact that this is an active page in the forum, and that Googling it has thousands of hits, they should acknowledge it and fix it.
After 40 minutes with support, they finally agreed to replace it. A company like Wyze should acknowledge when they make a mistake in their design.
I bought many different brand batteries in my life. Batteries swell and leak after the chemical reaction stops due to being discharged.
“ Alkaline batteries contain an electrolyte, which is a mixture of potassium hydroxide and water, that reacts with the zinc and manganese dioxide electrodes inside the battery to produce electrical energy.
When the battery is in use, the electrolyte solution can become heated due to the electrochemical reactions occurring inside the battery. As the battery is used up and its energy is depleted, the electrolyte solution can become more concentrated and the pressure inside the battery can increase.
Over time, the pressure and concentration of the electrolyte solution can cause the battery to leak. This is because the battery casing is not completely sealed, and the pressure can force some of the electrolyte solution to escape through small gaps or cracks in the casing.”
ChatGPT is amazing.
Did anyone have any luck getting a replacement out of warranty? Support already denied me a replacement. I still have the original batteries in there.
I used a cuticle pusher and wedged it into the side so that it is squeezing the side of the battery against the plastic. Then I pulled the cuticle pusher along with the battery out of the opening. The friction provided enough grip to force the battery out.
If anyone’s having trouble removing their battery from the Wyze scale, all you have to do is keep tapping it in and out and eventually it pops out completely . Super simple.
I used a small knife and pushed it out. It’s not a design flaw. It’s these pos batteries that came with the scale. I replaced them with Everyreadys and they slide out just fine.
I too had the 3rd battery stuck. To me, this IS a design flaw. If you cannot make all 3 batteries accessible when removing the battery cover because the 3rd battery is stuck deep inside with only about 1/4 of the tip sticking out, then it would have been a simple matter to create a plastic eject button. But no! Quite a few of us have had the battery stuck. Others have suggested that using AA instead of AAA would give longer life. And, there is another thread on here about how some people have had significantly reduced battery life, some even as little as 3-5 days. At that point, I would junk it. My other Wyze products have not had this many issues, so perhaps I am not giving up on the brand, but this was a seriously poor design.
