Why is it so hard to implement a 90 degree view.
It takes probably an hr to implement this feature in the source code. Unbelievable
i saw threads 8 years ago asking about rotating 90
This company is crazy

And as the company told us years ago because of the way that the framing is done on the POV You would end up with bars on either side if it were to happen this way, this would also interfere now with the multi view and other things so there would be a lot that goes into this. A lot more than some might think And on top of that in the years since they’ve also instituted the Wyze Web View and a few other things. Something as seemingly simple as the formatting of the picture itself can cause a lot of difficulties in a few areas. I was happy when they originally gave us that rationale as you know most companies I don’t know sale the big magnificent Seven companies everyone knows Probably wouldn’t even respond.
This is not doable in software. The image sensor is a rectangle, if you put it sideways the video would be tall and narrow, or extremely low resolution since they’d have to cut the top and bottom and zoom in. An hour to code it is also a completely random and inaccurate number. Just because your head has misled you into believing something, does not mean it is correct.
I’m actually kind of excited that they are finally working on giving rtsp to most of the cameras and that we will finally be able to do this on our own through that. Because I do have a couple of cameras that I have tilted at 90° angles and it’s kind of annoying to view them sideways, but it’s also pointless too mount them in landscape view because it loses a lot of the view that way in something like a stairwell or a hallway or an alley.
I have one v3 I mounted to the side of a window. I made a sheet metal L bracket because no 90 degree flip is possible. I have my v3 attached to the bottom of my L bracket because I wanted it to sit lower below my gutter. Still a 180 degree flip works in my situation.
Not doable in software lol. Do you not realize you can full screen the landscape videos? It’s the same thing. They already have it half done!
Not doable…. Right……. Joke of the century. Can’t rotate videos…..
Do you realize that doing that cuts the resolution of the video severely?
What is your ask here, do you want a vertical/tall video that is upright (portrait view) or a standard wide/landscape video when the camera is sideways?
The first is doable without loss of resolution, but would require total redesign of the app to handle that (or big black bars on the sides). The second would look awful as it would constantly be 3x digital zoomed (approx).
Either way, does not appear there is much demand for it. Go to the wishlist forum and see if it is there and vote on it if it is, or create one if it isn’t. If it gets a lot of votes maybe it will make it into future firmware/software.
What other brand offers this feature you’re asking for?
As much as I dislike Wyze, 90° rotation is not possible due to aspect ratio (not square) as stated above.
Even Professional Grade Security Cameras don’t do a 90° rotate on a rectangular sensor.
This is the option available on a Reolink, No 90° rotate but does have Horizontal for Reverse view.
90° rotation is very uncommon
what are you even talking about
90 rotation is just the same as full screen video. What part of that don’t you understand. They don’t have to do ANY ADDITIONAL CODING besides ignoring the autorotation on the phone!
Maybe you’ve never rotated your phone to see the full screen video before …
Not sure, what are you even talking about? Are you asking for a portrait view video? If so, specify that. Sure it would be full screen, but tall and narrow which is a view that is not going to be useful in most cases. As I mentioned before, it would require a total rework of the app to be able to fit that in all the different screens without black bars. The preview view, thumbnails, non-full screen view, etc would be pretty much useless the way it is now.
Tons of coding involved, both in the firmware (to use a portrait view instead of landscape) and in the app, to meet a need that is an edge case and has very little demand.
Maybe if you ask to speak to the manager it will help.
You’re finally getting it.
“Not useful in most cases” is a lazy response. Tons of situations need a vertical view. Why don’t you ask wyze doorbell series. I’m not able to see packages on the floor because they put the sensor horizontal instead of vertical other brands already do this or put two sensors on there
Not to mention hallways and other longer narrow locations
All this excuse of “takes too much effort to code” blah blah
The amount of time wasted debating would have gotten this done already. It’s not rocket science.
I don’t work for Wyze and do not code anything, so whatever time I’ve taken to respond would not have been spent on coding.
No brand can have every feature that every user in the world wants. Things that have a lot of demand will get attention.
The duo doorbell has a second camera to give you the view down below, that’s a whole different animal.
Whatever, go make a wishlist topic or vote on an existing one. You’ll most likely be wasting your time, but at least wyze might see it that way. The reality is, it will probably never happen.
